I'm having the Bravo test in two weeks ( consultant away next week) I'm only on Gaviscon and not doing great but the PPI's didnt like me and  I realy wasn't happy being on them anyway and ranatidine didnt do alot . I spoke to the consultant about surgery and he's very anti not that that will stop me and had indicated it's all in my mind sad believe me I know it's not. I know anxiety doesnt help and I'm trying my best to stay positive and not doing a bad job if I say so my self. He said to me when I questioned the safety of long term use of PPi's and that they are really only licenced for short term use and I quote "well yes people are on them for years and they are Fine " really !!! Oh well lets hiope the Bravo shows up some acid and then I'll have the manomatry and see where I go from there , surgery is I think my way forward. Dr's sometimes I wonder. sorry for the rant .

    Hi,

I had both of them done, Bravo and Manomatry and all they showed was mild reflux, normal acid levels. In my case my GI said I actually did not need PPI's everyday but in order for it to work I had to take them for 6 months.  Now, he did offer me the option for the surgery which I refused.  I do not have the normal sysptoms and I sleep without heartburn. Yes, all Doctors now have the same excuse when they have no idea what's wrong with you " Anxiety".  Now, kep in mind you can also be Gluten sensitive (or sinsitive to anyhting else) and stress is causing the reflux which appear to be my problem. Yes, I have other symptoms which appear to be related to the back and not to the reflux.

Hope all goes well. God Bless!

    Hi Thankyou for the reply.

I'm gluten free anyway have been for years and have alergy tests but the DR said they weren't very good and only elimation was of any use. I have been on a very dtrict diet cutting out nearly everything since September I have added a couple of things now and most seem to set me off but will keep on .I know it will be painfull but I'l eat anything and ebverything ( within reason ) whilst I have the test in the hope it give a true reading.

I'll plpod on as so many do and see where the path takes me.

    Thank you gain .

Hi Jane. I am also a reflux sufferer, but i think i have finnaly solved the puzzle. Time will tell whether i am right. I have just started with therapy and understanding the mechanism of that disease.

I believe now the problem is just in our head..all this choking, smothering, sore throat..we are just insane. Lol, i am kidding.

I was driven to the verge of my sanity listening to this sentence by people.

I read great article that most refluxes are due to low stomach acid(yes!), which also means less digestive enzymes in our body. The food than doesnt break down properly, creating a pressure on LES and as consequence reflux.
