Old injury still playing me up - Please help

Hi guys, I always end up coming back here, because my doctors say there is nothing wrong... I am at a total wits end still.

2 - 3 years ago I had an avulsion fracture of my left lateral malleolus , nothing major by any means, I was put in an aircast boot for a couple of months then came out of it when it felt right, no follow up appointments were needed and didn't have / need physio. All good right?

Well not really, ever since I have had ongoing pain, here are some of the situations I get pain in that area -

  • Walking for any prolonged period
  • Pain seems more frequent at night or when lying down
  • Sitting still with my foot in the same position for a while.

I wouldn't describe the pain anywhere near agonising, it's just pretty constant and annoying, on a pain scale I would say a 3 to 4.

I have had a follow up X-ray, nothing further was broken (this was a few months ago) all they could see was the scar where the bone healed. Physio was no good and she couldn't identify problems with the ligaments. That is all great news, I don't want there to be anything wrong of course, but why does this pain keep going on? As a comparison I badly sprained my right ankle a couple of weeks ago, that has since healed up fine and no problems now, so why is my left ankle still giving me trouble?

Going forward what is the best bet? My GP will just refer me to physio again and it will end there, should I bother paying through the nose to see someone privately or will they just tell me nothing is wrong too?

I am starting to wonder if it's in my head, but when I am lying there constantly trying to adjust my ankle to get it comfortable I think to myself, surely it's not just me? 😦

It looks like a misaligned ligaments is your problem. Ask for a mobile scan of ligaments to see if they have changed position in the ankle space.

    Good luck
