Old shoes

I have today ditched my sketchers for an old pair of flats and I have really struggled. Could it be my old shoes match my old way of walking, which was very different? Any experiences of this

    Hi pauline

I have sketcher trainers and they help absorb any impact on my hip. I tried wearing a new pair of trainers that are flatter  and it hurt so much so went back to the sketchers till things settle down a bit more and I try again.I am 8 weeks post op on Tuesday and had a bit of a rough ride so far.

I can't get my shoes on yet as they are too tight across the foot. I am wearing Dr. Scholl sandals which are adjustable with velcro fastenings and my slippers. These are very comfortable. xx

old shoes are worn down to the limp we used to have so they are not good for walking in post op - no option but to go shoe shopping .....

Absolutely Pauline. It was recommended to me by my surgeon to absolutely buy new shoes for right after surgery. We have worn our shoes into the pattern of our former walking when we had the bad hip(s). And if we wear the same shoes after our new joint is in place, our body can slip back into the old pattern.

I cannot afford to buy shoes for myself because I raise my three granddaughters and they come first. But because this was so important, I forced it out of my budget. I bought a slip on pair of Sketchers Air for the convenience of putting them on and off after surgery. And also a very nice sturdy pair of Asics for walking that have shoe laces. Beyond that I guess I will replace my others slowly but surely.

After our surgery we are literally re-teaching our bodies to walk again and we must do it properly with Good posture and heel to toe follow through.

Hope you find just the right shoe for you!

its recommended that any well worn shoes are binned after a lower limb major joint replacement as they will have worn unevenly due to the limp. Chuck em and buy new ones.
