Does anyone here with OLP have any difficulty swallowing food or liquids?

Hi , yes this is my main symptom and led to my diagnosis of oesophageal LP. I had an endoscopy and biopsy plus barium swallow to diagnose. I then had two stretches by endoscope with an inflatable balloon. These were able to open up the scarred tissue to a certain extent. This has made it easier for me to swallow and food doesn't now get stuck, although I still have to be careful and chew thoroughly. I will probably have to have this done again in a couple of years. Suggest you request biopsy as this is only way to diagnose with certainty.

I went to my MD couple of years ago with this problem and she said i have gerd and the swallowing problem was due to inflammation caused from that. I did have an endoscopy with no results. They weren't looking for LP Though. I rarely get indigestion or heartburn but was prescribed Omeprazole to be taken daily. No improvement.

thank you for your reply. I'll definitely have another discussion with my MD.

Same thing happened to me. They jump to conclusions about Gerd. I didn't have it either. Next they thought it was eisinophilic oesophagitis and did a biopsy. This confirmed LP in the oesophagus which I was told is very rare. Surely common sense that if you have it in the mouth it's a good bet it could be elsewhere! Insist on a biopsy and that they look for LP. Good luck.

Hi,Patrick,i've had a couple of choking sessions myself....scary.

thanks for the info. The LDN really sounds interesting and i will read up on it. Just the fact that you have had 3 weeks almost clear is very promising!

      thank you for your input!
