Omeprazole Side Effects? Light headed? Anxiety Attacks

My Mother was experiencing severe pain across her ribs and back which the doctors say is indigestion but only now and again. She was put on Omeprazole about a month ago and after taking one in the morning she starts to feel light headed, dizzy and generally unwell. She then seems to panic about it and feels she cant breathe which makes her panic more. Her chest and heart are perfectly fine. She stopped taking the tablets yesterday in case they are causing these problems and she is having tests done next week to check for ulcers etc. Has anyone else had these problems? How long do the side effects take to go away when you have stopped taking them?

i was prescribed it very recently & had a few side effects that started, then fizzled out. So I persevered with it.Then I was out running & hallucinated! I got such a fright but as it was an isolated incident kept taking them. About a week later (3 weeks into pills) I started experiencing very sudden weird anxiety. I felt like I was going to be attacked & got extremely paranoid. I only took the pills for about a few days after this as I also started experiencing sudden bursts of anger, like really bad pmt & started getting really dark moods (depression) so I have stopped the pills. Been off them for about a week but still a bit strange & angrier than normal. I just hope these symptoms will disappear! Hopefully because I only took them for a very short time they'll go! Does anyone know if these effects have any lasting implications?

I have been taking omeprazole for nearly 3 years and initially thought this was a wonder drug. Having been diagnosed with a very painful hiatus hernia and complicated by barrets oesophagus. I was told I would to take omep for life. Early side effects were nausea which may still have been the hernia effect as it settled down. But for the last year or so things have got more serious with on going feelings of being unwell almost like flu and fevers coming on, unable to concentrate, headaches, no motavation and bouts of anxiety and mild depression and every day is a battle. I have run my own business for over 10 years and never felt like this and only now just got to linking all these feelings with taking omeprazole. I am going to stop taking these as a trial and consult with my doctor, who frustratingly knows how I have been feeling in conjunction with omeprazole and never mentioned the link once.

Im glad this subject has come up as i want to update on my message two months ago saying my mum was on them with no problems, how wrong i was, to cut along story short i found out on the net last week that these tablets should NOT be taken with Clopidogrel which my mum was on. she did adventually have the dizziness and light headedness, also couldnt walk properly and got so bad she couldnt go
out or cook food. i told her what id seen and she stopped taking them, slowly she got better and this weekend she is back to normal. turns out the Omeprazole were stopping her Clopidogrel from working, i think the way she was going she would have ended up having another TIA WEnt to thr dr. with her yesterday, told her what id seen and mum said she is better now since stopping them, dr. checked this out for herselfe and said yes your right this is what it says.
Pamela if the Omeprazole were to affect you i think you would have noticed within the first month, i have read of others on hear stopping them and its taken a while to get them out of their system. i hate to think what might have happened to my mum if i hadnt made my discovery, how many people are taking both the Clopidogrel and the Omeprazole out there andhave no access to the internet and dont know, its dreadfull.

you need to have a endoscope to see if you have ulcers /hiatus hernia
this is a camra down the throat ! you can have local (throat spay ) walk away after or a general ( knocked out ) 4hours to recover !
Im going for my 2nd today with throat spray it's a little uncomfortable but over in minuits ! Hopefully my duodenal ulcer has gone now .
hope this helps it's the only sure way of finding out if you have a ulcer the rest is guessing by your gp
