Doc just been in &I said it will be painful but just have to grip a nurses hand. I'm not good with pain. Is it REALLY painful??? I can come back another day for a general anaesthetic but there is nothing else, cold turkey with the local or asleep. HELP 😫😫😫😫

My wife calls me a wimp. Women are the stronger ones who can take the pain. Relax.

Hi David, I THINK it was lignocaine (unsure how it's spelt). I've replied a lot more further down the page.

Hi Sarah, I'm hoping by now you have had it and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as u thought it was going to be, if not you have done a runner.

Let us know how it went, I'm hoping for same, do they give you a local or nothing.

My mother in law had one and she did say it wasn't bad, she was 81 at the time, maybe no sense no feeling LOL

    Hi Sarah ~

I saw your message and I'm hoping by the time you read your messages, you've had the injection.  I had problems prior to my  hip problem..with my back, leg and neck...in a different auto accident, I injured my right hip...or that was the thought at that time.  So, I, too had to have that injection and it only takes a min or so and it's over.  I wouldn't stress too much about it...it's like having a baby...afraid of the pain while delivering, when it's all over, you forget about that pain.

If you need to continue injections, you need to tell them in advance that you want to be put to sleep...sometimes they cannot do it on the day because the insurance companies have to pre-approve it.  That could have been the case today.

Anyway, I wish you luck.  And, btw, if you do have to have hip surgery, it's easy-peasy..and you are asleep :D  Take care and let us know how you're doing!

Yikes! I get them done on a regular basis, but I am sedated first. I cannot imagine having them done without sedation as the needle is very long. Good luck!

OMG Anne, I only got the local and that wasn't too bad at all. I lay there thinking "Oh this is a piece of cake". Then I felt the tugging (which they said I would) and that was P.A.I.N. I put up with it first time round because surgeon stopped for a while but OMG i cried out very loud the next time round. I couldn't take any more pain. Anyway they got what they wanted including some clear synovial fluid which they've sent off to microbiology. I came home almost skipping. Ahhhh no pain at all. I had forgotten what it felt like to be pain free. I even knelt down to pick up some bits on the floor and got up again.

However.................sitting here writing this I am getting some sharp pains in my groin and inner thigh when I move sad.I have to keep a diary for 2 weeks until I go back again so I will keep posting on here. I'm going to ask why I got all that  pain with the tugging, maybe on some nerves??

He probably hit a nerve. Happened to me once. The pain is from the Lidocaine wearing off. You will know in a few days if the shot worked. Good luck

Sarah, I usually feel pretty immediate pain relief, as Steve said probably from the lidocaine. Once that wears off, sometimes it is a few days before my hips are happy! I had my injections done a week ago and I am pain free.

I'm so glad to hear that!! You were fortunate it worked so well!! I also think about my back that if I do get it done it doesn't affect that ! There is so much to think about and yet some people just go . My husband had to have his bicep and shoulder done at the same time a couple years ago and he just picked up and did it was it painful absolutely before any after for him but we have a room business and he had to go back to work and is doing fine but he has his days to . So to him he tells me just go but it's just not that easy for me. This is a great website and I appreciate being able to communicate all of you thank you very much for listening and responding !
