on a reduced amount of citalopram

Hi all, I have been on a reduced amount of citalopram. 40mg down to 20mg for around 4 months, over the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing terrible anxiety that lasts 24/7 and panic episodes. It has affected my IBS/gastritis severely and am finding it hard to cope.

I am on 200mg of pregablin a day as well.  I would appreciate any advice.

It’s probably withdrawal symptoms that you are experiencing. I had it a few years ago when I reduced from 40mg of Prozac to 20mg. I’ve been on 10mg of citalopram for 8 months now and only just starting to see some small improvements. These drugs take a long time to get in and out of our systems. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi thank you for your reply. I was reduced to 30mg whilst given a substitute that was then increased so that I could come down to 20mg but the substitute one made me have terrible stomach issues and so was stopped

But because I was already on the pregabalin the citalopram was not re-increased. I was coping at the time but it has hit me now I think.

your decrease is too much, you should have gone from 40 too 30 for 3 months then down to 20 after that.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I have come to realise that it should have been reduced more slowly when they stopped the other medication that disagreed with me but I have now been on the 20mg for 4 months now so am going to have to persevere I think.
