Hi all, I’m new to the PE world. My name is bri and I am 22, I was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary emboli on my 22nd birthday in July 2017. I was on birth control viorelle and am now on xarelto. My cycle is irregular (just went 4 months without a period) and originally got on birth control for the cramps however now I am unable to take any hormonal contraceptives. How do I Alieviate the pain from cramps while on blood thinners? This will be a constant battle for me for a while SOS

Hi Bri,
Sorry to hear you are having problems post PE. Afraid I can't comment on your PE causes or some of your issues (wrong sex), but I can give my experiences of blood thinners.
I was initially put on warfarin and seemed ok, then switched to Xarelto as it was considered more modern and easier to manage. After a week or two, I started to get pain in joints and neck, headaches and bleeding. This got worse and worse until I was unable to function and the bleeding was pretty bad. Thankfully, my specialist took me off xarelto immediately and, after less than two days, most of the problems had gone.
A couple if other people on here had heavy bleeding on Xarelto (nosebleeds I think) that was fixed when switched to another.
Maybe worth trying another anticoagulant? The one that seems to have the least side effects seems to be Apaxiban (sp).
All the best
Peter
