On the road to recovery.

I had been in a cast for 8 weeks due to 2 ankle fractures on the same foot. It was finally taken off. Upon having the cast removed, the radiologist was not totally happy with the X-ray results. However an orthopaedic surgeon was contacted who stated things should be ok. Even though I am not totally confident in walking, I try to partially put weight on my foot. Also, I did some research, and I shouldn't worry about my foot still turning purple when not elevated. According to some other people this happens fairly regularly. I see a physiotherapist on Monday,  and  will get some exercises to help tone the muscles and improve circulation. Someone also mentioned that keeping the foot down for awhile even though it turns purple/blue will help the foot get back to normal. The above information is others' experiences. Checking with a doctor is also a good idea!

Just curious to know if you are in a boot or using crutches. Did the doc recommend full or partial weight bearing...

Hi Zeldas! I have been having a difficult time getting into the Patient Website for some reason. Anyhow, I have been using crutches and did get to borrow a wheel chair. I don't have a boot cast, but possibly I will get one today when I see the physiotherapist. I am hoping the physiotherapist will tell me that I can go ahead and walk, that there will be some pain, but work through it. Have a good day Zeldas!
