On the surface leg ulcers

Hi there, I have the above and have been told by the nhs, that because they are superficial, they will be very painful. and boy are they.I am a lady who is no stranger to pain, to date i've had 5 major ops on this leg including a complete knee replacement, and this is the reason that the nerves are in revolt. I'm so tired of this relentless pain, and wonder if there is anyone out there who could give me some tips on pain relief. I have been prescribed a nerve blocker which I am taking but I've another 5 days to go before it starts to kick in, in the bad times I do contemplate taking my own life. as I can see no end to this pain.

I am very sorry for you because the current treatments for nerve pain either don't work or if they do, they can cause nasty side effects . There is very little that can be done for this type of pain.. I take nothing for my neuralgia because I don't want any further complications. Hot weather is the only thing that gets rid of my pain, numbness and tingling. I do hope that the nerve block works for you.

Thank you Pippa for responding to my query. Regarding the side effects of the nerve block, I've my fingers crossed that I only experience the lesser of the list of symptoms!! My pain is so intense I cannot walk as the positioning of these ulcers are around the ankle, so I must rely on these drugs for general living. But the moment healing is en route, I'm getting off them!
I'm so sorry your neuralgia continues to be such a problem, how about a heat lamp, would that help? Good luck to you.

I have heard of heat lamps which my dad is also interested in for his arthritis. I haven't got round to investigating it though. UK weather can be very variable which always sets the symptoms off . Three months in Italy always gets rid of it.
Have you tried pure aloe vera gel for the ulcers? I had a skin complaint on my face and the treatment I got for it got rid of the problem but left horrible marks behind. I rubbed aloe vera gel on it, and within a week, the inflammation and scabs disappeared.

Our climate is dreadful for people with any bone and chest problems, how lovely for your father to be able to go away to Italy to solve his problems. Back in the 60's I lived and worked in Rome for two years, and I have never since those halycon days been so fit.!
When these have healed I will try aloe vera, a nieghbour of mine makes the soap, so i shall see what else he has to help. That is a very good idea, thank you Pippa.

I wouldn't wait for the ulcers to heal before applying the aloe vera. I would put the gel on now while you still have the ulcers. That's the most effective time to use it. When I used it on my face, the abrasions were only partially healed, so I used it to complete the healing process. If you use the gel after they have healed, there won't be anything left to heal so there won't be any point in using it. Also, you need to use 99.9% pure aloe vera gel because a lot of products tend to be adulterated with other things and have only a small amount of aloe vera in them which won't be effective. You can find this pure aloe vera gel in health food shops.
