On week 8 - still insomnia

After a break-up and the realisation that I was unhappy, tired and anxious for quite a while already I contact the doctor and got on Citalopram. I also visit a shrink. First 2 weeks 10mg, then 20mg. I'm on 20mg now for 8 weeks and still have troubles sleeping through the night. I slowly feel better but the short nights are a nightmare. I wake up after ~5 hours of sleep (I have no problem getting to sleep) and then I can't sleep any more. I'm not sure if this is caused by Citalopram, the break-up is still 'in my head' and I also worry allot about my mental health. I have heavy dreams when I sleep and I always remember them when I wake up.

Will this get any better? I tried Oxazepam, described by the doctor, but it didn't help me sleeping through the night. Right now I don't take any pills to sleep better.

    Hello Bram.

I'm 9 weeks in and still have a hard time staying asleep too. I fall asleep quickly but wake up 3 times a night. My anxiety is still not gone. My doctor told me that when the anxiety gets under control. Sleep will get better. I used to take trazodone and melatonin to sleep but now I dont need to use anything. I think it just takes time. Hang in there.
