One crutch?

has anyone been advised which side to use one crutch? I have been using mine on the good leg side but my friend who had his op in January was told the opposite, to use it on the THR side. Thanks Tony

    Hi Tony,

The operated side is weakest OK? Well, when we walk the hip/buttock  muscles work hardest when they swing the opposite leg. So if your THR is on the right then you are using those weak muscles when you swing your GOOD leg so you need to help to lift your good leg by using your stick/crutch on the good side. In my case my stick is in my left hand because I have a new right hip.

Thanks All, I now have to retrain my brain. Walking without is not easy either, I have to learn to walk again. Tony

And who, before their THR, would have believed it would be so hard to learn to walk ?

Use the crutch on the opposite side to the operated leg.
