One Crutch or Two - upon release

Posted , 13 users are following.

I had always understood that THR was a three day stay in hospital, possibly extended, should there be the need.  It now appears that rather than being released and walking with the aid of just one crutch, or a walking stick, depending upon the pre release assessment, most patients are expecting to be released with two crutches.  Is this the norm?  So much contradictory info on thie site, I am finding.

Unless your posture was very good prior to THR, and there was no limp, stopping using 2 crutches too early can hinder your chance of walking properly and maintaining good posture.

Before the op i had no posture, except bent to the left. Now i can stand straight my gait is still not right but i am working hard, I use two crutches outside and one in side, can manage a few steps without, but not confident. My physio is trying hard to sften my muscles and due to being bent for a long time the muscles sre solid. Once they have loosened my leg may drop a little more .
