One crutch which side?

I had a RTHR 4 weeks this Friday just been to physio and he said when using one crutch to use it on same side as op leg for me my right side. So I have being doing it wrong?? It feels weird and he said to put good leg first then crutch then then bad leg. What does everyone else do I think I will ring the physio at the hospital too. I live in the UK

I was told crutch on opposite side to op leg. Crutch goes forward with your op leg. That's what hospital and physio said.

No use crutch on opposite side to ur THR, this supports ur new hip when walking.

Yes, I'll add my 'opposite side' vote too - will be interested in what your physio says as I have been using 1 crutch only around the house and automatically use opposite.

I couldn't even imagine how to walk with a critch on the same side as the hip that as operated.

Automaticalky I went fir the left crutch (RTHR as well) because it just felt more natural.

Do get that second opinion, no use walking wrong/uncomfortable any more than needed right?

I use crutch on op side right side, crutch and op side forward first, then left side, I am nearly 5weeks post op, live in Devon

Personally I would use the crutch on what side it feels very comfortable on I am just 5 weeks post op and if I use one crutch I use it on my left side, I rthp and I will need the other one doing and yesterday when I went to get another sick note they told me to push for the other one to be done

I thought if it was one crutch you used the opposite side. It doesn't support the hip so well if you use it on the same side.

I have spoken to the physio at hospital on ward I had my op done and she said use crutch on opposite side to op. I'm a bit annoyed that the guy at the hospital told me otherwise. I knew it didn't feel supportive enough felt very unstable.

Well just thank goodness you had enough sense to query it.

good grief no. you always use a single crutch or stick on the opposite side to your weak leg. using it on the same side causes you to lean all your weight onto your weak leg and can hurt you.

Agreed with all the others. Don't know how you could use the crutch otherwise. Even when I was using a stick pre op, I used it on opposite side to problem hip.  Hope you get an answer that is right for you.
