One eye appears smaller than the other

Hi,

I have had a problem with my right eye since birth. There is very little vision in it and for someone else to look at, it appears significantly smaller than the other one. Now at the age of 21, it's beginning to make me a bit self conscious. I was wondering what the reason is that the eye appears smaller than the other? To me, the eyelid looks as far open as the good eye, but the eye itself appears smaller.
