One for the ladies - maybe.

This morning I decided to undertake the task of leg shaving only to discover its quite a difficult/dodgy job when half of your leg is still numb. Did anyone else find this challenging?

Most of the numbness will wear off with time. It does feel weird. Good luck in your recovery.

    Hi Alison

Cannot say I have. Been doing this from the start; I just imagine I am shaving a balloon lol

Fortunately I didn't have that problem. Most men don't mind having hairy legs. I can imagine it's a problem, the biggest worry would be cutting yourself due to numbness, and a danger of infection. What about wax?.

I have!  It’s the weirdest feeling. I am 16 weeks out and still have numbness. I am hoping it goes away soon. You do have to be very careful, and I admit, I have suffered a few knicks!

It does get better but at 18 months, I still have some numbness. I am very careful shaving over the incision.

Yes, if you have had surgery, it feels weird and wrong. It can last for a long time - still some numb areas after a year. for me.

I finally had to decide it was just funny to miss entire sections of my hairy left leg.  A long infection and three surgeries to replace, remove and replace the joint with significant nerve damage and numbness from just above the joint to my toes. Since my surgery in 2014, I haven't had a smooth left leg!!

Hi.Alison. Know what you mean!! I have an electric razor - ladyshave-and find it OK. Very careful over incision though until well healed!! Felt couldn't go for postop review at 6 weeks looking like a gorilla!!

Thank you all for your replies. Sometimes this journey can have a few laughs and its good to share. I guess I'll get used to having a slightly less smooth leg for the next while. There are worse things in the grand scheme. lol

Why not just wear trousers until you are able to shave without any problems?. Concentrate on your recovery first and then hairy legs.

Lol.  I get what you're saying David and believe me when I say I am being careful but I cannot be seen in the swimming pool in trousers so careful hair removal is the plan.

If you are in the swimming pool your leg is under water and not very visible. When you get out of the pool your legs are wet, not many if any would notice if your leg was a bit hairy. You have not mentioned your scar, if you are not worried about people seeing your scar why worry about a few hairs. Please don't think I am being sarcastic, but I really don't think anyone would notice if your leg was hairy. The important thing is to recover so that you can use your knee as if you had no problem with it.

This might be a dumb question but why is your leg numb?  I had my TKR in Jan and never had any numbness...

Lots of people have numbness for a while after TKR as far as I'm aware. Maybe you're a lucky exception.
