One month after ORIF Wrist fracture

hiya! so as title says, I'm one month post ORIF for wrist fracture

broke the ulna, radius and dislocated thumb among other things, it was a crush rather than a clean break so 14 separate breaks all together

broke it 26th March, ORIF 28th March plate, screws, wire & pins

woke up with Velcro splint post surgery, stitches removed day 11 with instructions to start physio immediately (which seemed like weird instructions less than 2 weeks after surgery)

anyway, it's a month now, movements going fine, doing physio 5 Times a day minus the splint and it's improving

my only issue is, I still have this bone sticking out the side of my wrist under my little finger (attached pic of where it should be) I'm not overly concerned as it doesn't seem to be causing much of an issue with pain or movement, just wondering if it's normal after this surgery!-cheers!

I can't say how normal that bone is but it's certainly something to follow up with your ortho, I would hope you'd have pretty regular follow-ups the first few weeks. I think your progress is great. I started physio 4 days post surgery, with multiple breaks and plates and screws, so two weeks isn't weird. One piece of advice though - keep your whole arm moving! I ended up with frozen shoulder and you don't need that on top of the wrist issue. Still having more problems from the shoulder than the wrist 15 months out. A couple times a day just make sure you do large arm movements to keep the shoulder active; swing the arm in wide circles, lift up, back and to the side. Also move it like you are trying to scratch your back both from the shoulder area and up from the waist. Will only take a few minutes a day but can avoid bigger problems later. Good luck with the healing. And follow the physio instructions. I made the mistake of doing more hoping to heal faster and that back-fired.
