One month after prostate surgery good news and bad news

Posted , 16 users are following.

I am 56 years old and I just had a prostatectomy nerve sparing hopefully. Incontinence looks like it won't be an issue at all now thank God. However down below there is absolutely no reaction and I fear no hope and that scares me to death. It is deader than dead and shorter I might add , all of this I had knowledge of beforehand as a possibility but of course I was hoping that it would not happen to me. My question to anybody out there in this forum would be ... is there anyone with similar experience as me and similar age with some sort of timetable of successfully regaining sexual function. I need something to hold onto. I need hope

    Hi Mark

I'm 14 months on from RP and my ED has been a real downer for me. However I'm using the vacuum pump and my girlfriend is very understanding as i take 5 mins to get things together in the toilet before jumoing into bed. this is a tourniquet to keep the blood from moving out and it does work but after 30 mins you don't feel anything as your penis turns purple. Any of the viagra like tabs were having no reaction. am

wondering if after 18 months thing will improve. I miss the morning hard ons the most.

It's like I'm dead down there. I'll stick with the vacuum pump and begin trying the cialis tabs soon again. I'm 55 years old an have good health otherwise.

You say hat Cialis isn't working for you.

      do you take it daily?

do you take any other prescription drugs?

I think he means "Testosterone", but I may be wrong.

Even so, don't confuse "Testosterone" with "Libido".

Just a show on TV talking about Testosterone...very interesting...While Libido was one of its attributes, Testosterone is used in many other male and female functions. And interestingly, the Uni of Adelaide just sent me an invite to join their clinical trials into Diabetes and the use of Testosterone to reduce the risk. But, as I have elevated PSA, they said not too smart to try and raise the Testosterone levels in case of PCa.

      Hi

Thanks for your response. ( my first communication about this to anyone)

I use Muse self injections and they do make me firm up but not as it was pre op. Also its a little painful and I can't sustain anything after 30 mins. The vacuum pump is the best thing really. It keeps my partner satisfied I think although lamenting the spontaneous of having sex. That's where the fun used to lie. But hey. I'm alive and have zero trace On my 4 month check ups nd have a 10 year old daughter who needs me. Otherwise I'm fit and healthy at 55. All things considered i'm lucky.

Hi Barney, I'm trying Levitra which has less side effects but still not much happening. I'm actually biting off 10mgs of a 20 mgs tablet to see if anything is maintained. I'm hoping that I'm a late returner to the glory days after 18mths say and don't need anything. I will try anything to have a normal pre op situation. What about the Hugh heffner AD? and the pill he takes alledgedly. I draw the line at wearing a silk dressing gown all day though

Hi Andrew, Thank for your message. I'm bocoming obsessed with the hope of becoming normal again. I don't think we ever will. However I'm hoping that from 18 - 24 months I'll kick in again - wake up one morning with morning glory. Don't seem to read many stories of this actually happening. THe vacuum pump ( who my girlfriend and I name George) is the currnet answer. It's good as long as you stop after 30 mins. Your penis turns purple and you feel nothing. You have to give it 15 mins before you begin the whole process again which is a drag - but all I can do to try and get some pleasure from this. Are you using pump, pills or porn?? (ha)

Just the PSA tested every 4 months. All good as it's zero. Has anyone had testosterone injections? does it work ? how dangerous is it ?

      Thanks

Hay Deeks, I'm using the pills for now but nothing is happening so far... my doctor will start me in the injection soon hopefully that works.... also, looking for a study girlfriend that will understand my situation. Lol

Agree. You don't want to elevate testosterone with the PCa being queried.

it is my understanding that Cialis works better than Levitra. At least at us what two general practitioners ( family doctors) told me.

post op the regimen they sold me was 5 mg Cialis daily at the same time regardless of whether I have sex. At first I had a negative reaction to it, stopped it for a few days, then decided to go on 2.5mg daily for a few days before upping it it 5 mg daily. And I feel it is working to increase the blood supply to the penis.

if a pill was not working for me I would change pills and or dosage before going for injections. All pills don't work the same way.

They put me on testosterone injections afer 3 months which is really not heard of much. Just have to remmeber this is a slow process and even if it doesn not work now it is doing thing to speed up recovery
