One side of body feeling light and other symptoms.

Since the start of this year, I have been having strange symptoms in my body. The most prominent is a feeling of weightlessness in one side of body (legs/arms). It's not numbness or tingling, but feels as if my leg/arm is not there and I suddenly move it to confirm its existence. I can feel all touch sensations in them - pinching, scratching, strength, etc.

Here is a brief timeline of my symptoms and tests:

January, 2018 - Strange feeling of pins and needles for a split second anywhere in the body. Feeling of pressure/light ringing in the ears. Pressure in the back of head/neck. Trouble sleeping - waking up 2-3 times in the first hour of sleep.

February - Blood and Urine Tests by PCP. Elevated cortisol levels, cholestrol and blood sugar (113). I was put on Mirtazapine (15mg).

March - Took mirtazapine for around 6-7 weeks and felt better. Got a new job and moved to a new city and thought everything is fine. Stopped mirtazapine.

April - Mostly fine, except the pressure in back of head/neck and slight dizziness.

May- Strange feeling of right hand feeling really light suddenly while working on my laptop in office (I am software engineer)

June -  Persistent feeling of ride side body being very light. Checking almost every minute if my arm and leg are there. Trouble sleeping - feeling of falling from a cliff in sleep 6-7 times every night.

Feeling off balance while walking (dizzy) and strange feeling while standing - as if I am in a elevator and it suddenly dropped down.

Went to the ER. Basic neurological exam, blood test and CT Scan of brain done. All normal (including blood sugar). Mostly absent from work.

July - Went to a specialist clinic - Neurologist and Cardiologist. Following is a list of tests that were done:

Cardio:

EKG - normal

3 Ultrasounds of arteries - normal

Event monitor for 3 days - normal

The cardiologist said I am fine and don't need to see him again.

Neuro

MRI of Brain - Normal

EEG - Normal

EMG - Normal

Vitamin B12 - 184 (low) (I am a vegetarian)

Vitamin D - 20 (low)

I was put on Melatonin for sleep and Vitamin B-complex tablets.

My balance and sleep have mostly gone since last 1.5 months, after I started taking melatonin and b-12. But the feeling of lightness/non-existence is still there in one side of body. It was always the right side but strangely it's the left side since yesterday.

Has anyone felt this? Could it be just because of low Vitamin B-12 and anxiety?

      Hi Ted,

I have been taking standard B-12 tablets since last month and a Multivitamin/MultiMineral tablet as well. My age is 26. Should I ask my doctor for for the injections? I am not sure if they are available over the counter here in United States.

I no use tablets B12 is hard to absorb ask him for B12 is over the counter no big deal fast injected on the muscle slow small needle , was before as B1 B6 and B12 together the 3 major vitamins is hard to abdord on tablets go via the liver digestive system etc the injection by pass the liver and boost the blood ask him here no need to ask I bye and use no dramas , especially if you are low , I use them even no low to elevate the red cells because of my autoimmune disorder the white cells are more and active , drink lots of pure water the blood is made of water , carrot juices beetroot celery apple lemon combine those as juices but you need photein to , everything you eat your body make blood , as we chat here we all say our story , me I use B12 as injection the B6 as tablet plus magnesium, to much magnesium can lower B6 or vice versa so they combine those I preferred to use magnesium as MAGMIN made by Blackmore’s you can found that in any chemist no need script , help relax to the magnesium avoid heavy meals after 6 pm regards take good care

Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. Vitamin B12 also helps prevent a type of anemia called megaloblastic anemia that makes people tired and weak. Two steps are required for the body to absorb vitamin B12 from food.Jun 24, 2011

What are you taking for your vitamin D levels? It's a vital vitamin.

I am taking the standard multivitamin which has 250% of DV Vitamin D. Should I take something else or increase my intake? Like Tedd suggested Ostelin above. And for B-12, apart from multivitamin (which has only 100% B-12), I take standard B-12 tablet which has 8000% DV. This is a standard tablet from CVS pharmacy. Should I switch to other brands/versions?

Chances are with multivitamins that you might take too much of other vitamins when you are only deficient in D3 and or B12, if you know which vitamins you are deficient in you should take the specific ones for that deficiency. Some vitamins go hand in hand and complement eachother, you should do a search on that. What goes well with D and what goes well with B12.
