One step forward, 2 steps back after ovarian cyst surgery

4 weeks post laparotomy op and seem to be yo-yo ing with good days and bad days.

Had been looking forward to a friend visiting me who lives quite away from me. Felt like I spent most of the day thinking 'get a grip and think of something to say' or are you leaving yet? Since then I have moments when I just keep crying.

I'm still taking regular paracetamol and Ibuprofen not as many as when I first came home but not far off. I feel I perhaps should be off these by now but the pain is genuinely still there. My tummy itches from inside? and I have a sharp dragging pain on the side that my ovary, tube and cyst were removed. Surgeon says everything seems to be going well and has discharged me.

I think because I know my sick note runs out in two weeks I assume Im supposed to be up and running by then but know that is probably not likely to happen reading some of the posts on here.

I want to get out and about but my confidence really seems to have taken a nose dive and I just want to be safe in the house. I don't have any feelings of 'cabin fever' I really am happy in my own company!

Is that because I'm just being anti social or is just that I haven't actually mentally and physically healed yet?

I think you're just not ready to go back to work yet. Can you see your GP and ask for another sick note? I believe it would benefit you and then you can start going out and about a bit more and gradually get back to normal. Op's like this do have a mental effect as well as physical in my own experience so just go easy on yourself and explain how you feel to your own doctor. Hope you have one who is empathetic with you. The inside tummy 'itching' and dragging sensation are  quite  normal at this stage. I still get some strange sensations even after 10 months! Inside parts take longer to heal as they are not exposed to air. Hope this helps. X smile

Hi there, I think you have replied to one of my posts before I had my surgery so good to see you pop up again. Thank you.

I think I need to just give myself permission to heal and and to acknowledge that I have been through a traumatic time. The build up to surgery wasn't the best experience and neither was theatre! Not one I want to be repeating thats for sure.

People who have been kind enough to visit have said how well I look and it makes me feel like a fraud. I'm quite a private person (she says writing on here for all to see🤔wink so if I'm upset or pooly I generally hide it and bat things off with a joke.

My GP is very good so I'll be having a catch up soon and hopefully they will answer some of my queries.

I heard that it takes a month for every hour your under a general anaesthetic, if that theory is correct then I'm on the verge of normal (whatever notmal is!😊wink in 4 months 😲

      Xx

Hi again Fljack. Give yourself permission to do whatever it takes to heal mentally and physically. Glad to hear you have a good Doctor, I'm sure he will give you the time off you need. Employers can Google all they want to but cannot force you to go back until your GP says you are 'Fit for work'! I think most of us feel like you about sharing our feelings in case we bore our family and friends, nothing worse than seeing that glazed look come into their eyes is there? Keep posting, we all need to vent at times like this and this forum is brill for that. Best wishes, Poll x smile
