Do what you feel comfortable with, I am just over 4 months and e even now I will use a stick outside mainly because I am waiting to go in to have my left hip done, my surgeon on 25th June said he had no problems me using a stick or a crutch just be comfortable, sorry if I repeated myself hugs lyn xxx

I used a wheeled walker for a couple of weeks and a cane for about 3 weeks. How's your balance and do you walk with a limp? If not I think you could use one or none.

Hi Jay, we are all different on here. I would not go out side unless to say have 1 stick or at the very least some one with you.Inside I would use 1 stick and again just be careful. Hope this helps regards Amandah

I was told general rule was drop to one stick when you could walk as well with one as with two, and the same when dropping from one to none - its how you are walking rather than a time thing. It is better to use a stick or sticks than limp. Try using one stick indoors and see how you go (stick to 2 outdoors to start with). Xx

day 19 , i think sticks are a bit too soon , i know every one is different but i would go back to crutches for at least the first month

The hospital I went to doesn't use crutches - sticks from day after op.

I was the same as Shirley, one stick once I left the hospital. The physio just said, Up straight like there is a string coming out the top of your head pulling you up and heel and toe, heel and toe while walking. Worked for me as walking unaided at 7 weeks no limp.

Worked for me too - 5 1/2 weeks and I can do about 1/2 mile stickless. Use a stick for longer walks as otherwise limp when I get tired.

Thanks Michael . Am too scared to try no stick !

I tried in the kitchen but went round clutching onto the work tops like a madwoman !

I have found using one stick that it is easier if keep

      Very upright

It's all fun and games lol
