One tonsil grew back ?

Hey all so in February i had my tonsils removed after a year of bacterial tonsilitis. My left tonsil was bigger than the other and gave me the most problems. So about 3 - 3 and a half weeks post op i started to get pain back there again so i had a look to see what was going on and to my suprise i saw that the same left side had started to grow back again! it started of small then eventually grew bigger and also behind my tongue all within a couple of weeks. Long story short i had it removed for the second time last week and all in less than 2 months of each other! The surgeon said he would send the tissue for testing and i was just wondering is it normal or even possible to have it grow back so quickly or is there possibly something else going on? i have read stories about other peoples growing back but years and maybe decades after there initial surgery but nothing as soon as mine. If anyone has any ideas or input it would be much appreciated. smile

    Hi Amy,

Did you ever happen to get some feedback on this? I just had my tonsils out 3 weeks ago and I can see my right one is growing back. It seems crazy to me that it can happen so quickly?? I can't imagine going through that surgery again. My post-op appointment is not for another 2 weeks, so I'm curious if you've learned anything?

    Thank you!

Hey so basically it was his fault for not taking enough tissue out in the first place. I made sure I saw my ENT as soon as I could he tried to get out of it by saying that I should try acid reflux medication because sometimes that can make it flare up although for me I had never and still have never had any symptoms of acid reflux ever so that’s when he said he would pay for the second surgery so it was a massive inconvenience and a lot of extra pain that could have been avoided if he had done the right thing in the first place. I hope you get some answers but I would definitely go back and have it checked out smile

I had my tonsils out when I was 4, and now today 28 years later I’ve had to have my left one taken out. The surgeon said they sometimes don’t take enough tissue.

Anyway, I am in agony! How did you cope with having it done twice in 2 months. If mine grows back again there’s no way I would do this again. I know I’m only 9 hours post op but bloody hell I could cry.

      Hope you get better soon!

Honestly the second one was way worse than the first because he had to cut deeper to make sure it was all out and having it done so soon after the first one was horrible. I almost went back to hospital just because the pain was that bad but all i can say is lemonade ice blocks are amazing ! the first surgery i had i was living on lemonade iceblocks and i lost like 3kg in a week haha theres gotta be some advantage right. Any i hope you get lots of rest and when you take pain killers make sure you eat with them because i learnt that the hard way and was vomiting as if it wasn't sore enough already!

If you have any questions im here smile

You sound like you’ve had an awful time with it. How are you feeling now?

Oh I’m petrified of vomiting, I can only imagine how painful it would be. I felt so nauseous when I came round from my anaesthetic and I was just spitting blood out for an hour or so. The roof of my mouth is the worst part at the moment. It’s so swollen and hanging down that it feels like there’s something stuck in my throat. I just want that to go down!

We’re the lemonade ice cubes fizzy? Probably a silly question but I had soluble paracetomol at the hospital and the fizz was so painful and it was just stinging. So ive opted for just swallowing normal pills.

Oh god yes it was terrible. i will admit though i haven't been sick since so i am happy about that because i was always getting a cold or something so in that respect its been amazing but i wouldn't wish that pain on anyone!
