Ongoing broken ankle

Hello,
My name is Berni & I am currently in a walking boot due to a broken Tibia. With one thing & another its been a very long process which actually started way back in Aug last year.
So quick time line of events 12th Aug 2020 went to a& e via the GP for an x-ray, was referred to the orthopeadic department but the doc wasnt sure there was a break. He popped me in a medical boot gave me crutches & advised to wear the boot for a week to 10 days & now follow up. Thankfully I have private medical insurace so went for a second opinion. Diagnosed broken fibular 3rd Sept 6 weeks later out of the boot all good. Unfortuately 5 weeks later i was experiencing a lot of pain again so went back to see the consultant who advised going back in the boot for 4 weeks, unfortunately pain increased so I had an mri scan which showed a break of the tibia.
Unfortunately this then required 12 weeks back in the boot!!! I have had a dexa scan & am on calcium & vit D supplements. So now i have been increasing my activity because the ankle was feeling really good - still in the boot - but I am now experiencing pain in the outside of my ankle. The boot keeps my ankle totally immobilised so I can't see that I can cause any further damage while wearing the boot & the doc encouraged plenty of movement. Has anyone experienced anything similar??
Sorry for such a long post.

HI there.
So sorry for your pain. I think we all can relate to at least the pain you're having. A few years ago I had a freak accident and was told it was a very bad sprain. When I wasn't healing I went back to see what was going on. Surely I was cracking up feeling so much pain that I couldn't put my foot down!
At the time of the accident, after going to the ER , they took the Xrays and they weren't sure if it was broke at that point. It sure felt like it but we are trained to listen to the doctors and specialist.
Fast forward and getting pretty frustrated, I sought out a 3rd doctor and he did an MRI and found the break. I had surgery about 3 weeks later. A splint after surgery, a cast six weeks latert and then a boot for another 6 weeks. Is it perfect? No, but its much better than it was. And I was glad to know I wasn't cracking up feeling so miserable.
I guess what Im trying to say is this; if you don't feel good and are in some pain, any pain, go back until you get an MRI or until you get that break taken care of. Some don't heal with "just a boot" .... so a 3rd opinioni might do you some good. In my opinion.
Everyone is different. Everyone has different pain. Its up to you to do the work because some docs will leave you in a boot forever! lolAdvocate for yourself and get the relief you need.
Good luck! ****

i agree with Teresa. I'd maybe explore going the surgery route.
