Ongoing Shingles, on and on and on

Hello, my husband suffers from ongoing shingles.

We are looking for suggestions for how you cope with and treat your symptoms, especially non-prescription avenues. He does not do well with medications so prefers to use other alternative treatments.

Any direction on helpful info to study up is also happily welcomed. We do not have a lot of faith in doctors and what little help they offer.

We have only just begun studying and understanding a bit of what this all means for us long-term. We had no idea how bad and how long this can go.

A few details: he is 55, had shingles rash breakout on his forearm on the back and front of it. That is how i knew what was happening as I recognized the blisters. He did take strong antiviral but it was about 7 days after onset of rash.

He got isolated blisters a bit around his back, chest, ear, face but not like the full on rash breakout that was on his arm.

That was 18 months ago. Since then, he has recurring troubles, we call them flareups, although I don't know if that's the right term. but its how i know what is going on with him.

The flareups often begin with what he calls the cicadas in his head, a runny nose, nausea and/or bouts of diarrhea, and terrible and sometimes violent tightening of the muscles. Those cramps will seize up his back, torso, arms, neck. The pain is huge and he can't sleep of get comfortable or hardly even move when the flareup is intense. some of them pass by more easily and less violently.

All of that of course effects his mental state.

Recently, he has a light rash, it does not have the blisters like in the beginning. The light rash is in the center of his chest and on the center of his back. its like it goes all the way through the one area. it is also In the area of much cramping.

The cramping and pain is probably the most debilitating symptom for him. most of the other symptoms are things that he can get on with his day to a degree.

He does also suffer essential tremors, so his nerves were already peculiar, if that is a helpful detail.

thank you warmly for any suggestions.

Cheers!
