    Hi

8yrs ago I went to the docs with terrible periods, facial hair, acne and overweight. Had bloods taken, scans done, swabs done.......after several months I was just put on a pill called Dianette with no answers to my problems and left to get on with life. I stopped taking the pill and afetr 3 n half yrs of trying finally fell pregnant. All was good, great pregnancy and healthy baby. over 3 yrs later I return to docs afetr having an 18 day period and the nurse practitioner who I saw said it sounds like i have pcos. No it cant be i reply as i was tested for that. So she books me and appointment with a Doctor the following week who after going through all my notes on file finds a letter from the hospital confirming i do have pcos! Seriously, i cried as i was relieved i finally had answers to my problems but also so angry for not recieving the correct care in the first place.

Im 5ft 8" but 23st so very overweight. They have put me on a tablet called orlistat which stops the body from absorbing some of the fat i each (which is limited to 15g a meal, if not you get terrible side affects) and now a tablet that diabetics have called metformin. Ive lost 11lbs in the last 2 wks since taking them and know i need to loose alot more as i would love another baby.

Go back to your doc and ask for help. Tell them youve tried the diets with no luck (id done weight watchers, slimming world, calorie counting, slim fast) and they should help you.

Do you have any other symptons?

      Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed with pcos just over 12 months ago after a 6 yr battle with my weight and periods. I started to grow facial hair and very thick dark hair on the backs of my thighs just below my ass!! So went to a new Dr Who sent me for test's and confirmed it was pcos. 9 weeks ago I weighed myself (first time in 5 years) and felt sick to my stomach when I saw 20 stone 7, I'm 5 foot 2 with an apple shape and like most people with pcos I carry my weight around my stomach from under my boobs to basically the tops of my thighs (sounds horrible I know). I'd looked at those digits on the scales and started Slimming World the very next day, after 6 weeks of eating fat free everything I was gutted to have only lost 9 lb it really put me on a downer so I went back to my GP and told that I didn't expect an overnight miracle but I surely should of lost a whole lot more than 9 lb in 6 weeks so looked over my food diary while I cried and cried (hormones!) She then prescribed me Orlistat, and wanted me to have bloods done I have been taking these for 4 weeks and lost 10 lb so far. Got my blood results back and my glucose was 6.2 (should be 6) so had more bloods done today. Oh and low and behold I haven't had a period sod's law!! Sorry for rambling girls x

      Hey

The unwanted hair makes me feel horrible.  My hubby says he can hardly notice it on my face but that's cause im constantly using hair removal cream or plucking it. I have acne aswell and using the cream makes it worse but I cant go around with a beard! Ive no confidence what so ever and being a size 26 really doesn't help.

How are you getting on with the orlistat?

I've not had any problems with it as I've not gone over 15g fat per meal........I've not dared after reading some of the horror stories!

      Hey,

I've done alright so far, had a tiny hiccup the second week but that's all. I must admit I struggle if we eat out. Went on Holiday last week so ate out fairly regular mainly at a Carvery Pub so I piled the veg on instead of the Mash and gorgeous Roastiescry!! Spoke to my Nurse yesterday she told me to stick to tomato based things when eating out....

I know the tablets are'nt little miracles but I'm hoping for one lol. I'm trying to build my confidence to get my backside to the local swimming pool but I can't seem to do it!

Hayley, I know what you mean about the hair. I hate it and get really paranoid, I can't use that cream on my face as I suffer with ezcema. I'm a size 24, I wear joggers and long cardigans all the time, all my clothes are black and have no style to them what so ever, I don't even wear make up anymore.

      How you getting on?

      Evening

I ate out today and the only bloody thing I could have on the menu was jacket pot with beans.

In july ive got my hubbys 30th bday meal at a mexican and then the following day a 4hr car journey, so im wandering if I didn't take them for a few days if id be ok??

Swimming- I'm happy to go with my little girl very early on a sat morning but as for going to do lengths id dye of embarrassment. I think people would laugh at "the fat ugly woman".

Its all about confidence which I just don't have.

Clothes are a bloody nightmare for me. I have the plus sz section in new look in my local town n thats it. I hate getting things off the net as they never seem to fit right and whenever I have special occasions/girls nights out I spend hours in tears and never want to go.

I NEED MY LIFE BACK AND THE WEIGHT GONE!

I turned my Sister down to be her maid of honour at her wedding, I just couldn't do it.

We are doing something out the weight now that's the main thing!

If you know your eating out at a place were the food could be high in fat don't take the tablets 48 hours before and 48 hours after. Jacket spuds! Sick of the sight of them if I'm honest lol. I do part of this diet along side Slimming World as I know most "free and super free foods" are mostly fat free or very low fat. I have brown rice and wholemeal pasta, sometimes I just throw in some chicken, chilli, garlic, chopped tomatoes.

      we'll get there Hayley xx

Thanks for the 48hr tip. I'm really committed to this diet and the tablets BUT I need to have a life along the way,  plus its not every year ya hubby turns 30 and I don't want him missing out-even though he says his not bothered (his way of being supportive).

Im very glad my doctor told me about this site as its good chatting to people with the same problems.

Do you attend sw weekly for a weigh in?

I weigh myself sunday evenings but will be going to the doctors every 4 weeks to get weighed then.

No I don't go to weigh in's a part from Dr's every 4 weeks. I had scales at home but got too obsessed with weighing myself so I gave them my mother in law.

This site is great I don't tend to feel as lonely and was amazed by how many people are in a similar position and understand what you go through. X

I wasn't diagnosed until this year (I'm 27) after a history of chronic right pelvic pain that sent me to the hospital, depression and disordered eating, when my doctor finally recommended me for a full hormone panel and a transvag ultrasound. I had always chalked up my inability to lose weight as a result of past disordered eating, but the tests showed I had insulin resistance. Metformin treats insulin resistance, so if a low-carb diet isn't an option for you, maybe have your doctor check you for IR?

Hi everyone thanks for your stories/replies I found that there's not much help for people with pcos and my doctor gave me this website to go on but I found my own information on pcos and found I needed to go on low GI diet so not easy I've joined the gym I've only been doing it for 3 weeks and I've gone from 13 stone to 12 stone 5 which I'm happy about it's hard but basically you need to stay away from fizzy drinks fried foods eat whole grain and I've found home made lemon water amazing my skin feels better I hope every one finds there own way to control it x

      Hey

      Great weight loss :-)

Lemon water-sorry if this sounds stupid but is it just cold water with a slice of lemon or fresh  lemon juice? Anything else added?

I think the main thing we can do to help with pcos is get the weight off. My doc said I should see an improvement in my other symptoms once I loose weight.

Keep up the good work x
