Op yesterday feeling sick sore and sorry!

I'm 43 and a r THR yesterday had a spinal with sedation didn't feel or hear a thing woke in recovery. Would highly recommend and also pain came back gradually so was able to get on top of pain. However felt very sick and was sick til half eight at night three times despite anti emetics. That was horrible. Think it was the OxyContin now having pro morph three hrly and paracetamol pain at its worse feels like a severe day re op with that aching feeling deep in the hip and round the bum. Stitches are dissolvable which is great. Had physio this am not as bad as I thought but felt faint walking to loo in my side room turns out my Hb is 87g/dl so have advised if I continue to feel faint to have the blood or it will reduce my mobility which makes sense. Really don't like the idea of someone else's blood in me. I know all the hard work lies ahead and the sorry bit comes with knowing will need other one doing and both repeated in years to come. Whine over! Don't know how people do both at once

Hello Caroline, well the scary bit is over and sorry you have been affected with sickness but it will pass.  when I had my spinal the surgeon popped ina morphine jab after teh op to keep me pain free for about 18 hours - perhpas he thought i was a wimp.  Once your BP returns to normal you will be up and about swinging that leg and tippy toeing.  Early days for you and keep tissues handy as the water works happen for no reason

    Take care

    Hi Caroline

You are doing so well and each day it will get easier. Im 4 weeks on Monday also had a spinal inject and now walking un aided from week 3. Once the swelling goes down and you feel you can see daily improvement it motivates you. Make sure you do all the exercises reguarly they really do help. I to will have to have the right side done in 2 - 5 yrs time but I am planning to get back to the gym soon as I can and start on building up the muscle in both of them that should hopefully strengthen the right and may be give a longer lead time to having to have it replaced. I had nausea too for a couple of days following the surgery and the morphine made me itch, as in the song by Pink! Good Luck you will be fine and time goes so quic.kly

Hi Caroline , early days for you but get this week over and things do get easier . You are young so with a bit of grit and detemination you will make a good recovery . I am 50 and 9 weeks ago I had my two done together . The two were shot so just went for it ! Now 9 weeks later I am doing everything round the house , walking my dogs and so on . Glad I did it now . I still have a long way to go but it is amazing what progress you make in a short time , but do go easy and rest whenever you need to . I have got so used to sleeping on my back I sleep all night now , no waking at about two and not getting off to sleep again . Execises are very importent and really do help so good luck with your recovery , Ruth , Wales

Dear Caroline ... I am so sorry to read this - nasty after effect - I rember the nurse asking me how my pain level was and to me it was 8+ - so they gave me whatever I neede - homnestly, I don't remember it too well as I was sort of spacey - also blacked out after gone to the toilet with Physical Therapist due loss of blood -

but it definitely gets better - tell them how you feel ( exaggerate  if tyou must) - and like ann mentioned: keep the tissues close at hand :-)   be gentle with your self and please come back here --- there is big love for you here

HELLO CAROLINE!.... the worst part is over (hopefully).... being sick is a horrible feeling, it was probably brought on by the nerves and worrying about the operation. Take a deep breath, relax and get some well earned rest now, things will improve. I am waiting for my operation date (3 months waiting now), I can`t wait until its all done with, and i can get back to normal. Take the best of care xx

Hi Caroline, believe me it does get better. Keep a dairy of how you are feeling and your achievements. You can look back and see how far you have come. Good luck with your recovery x

Hi Caroline I had to have 2 pts of blood transfused day after op as they walked me to toilet, told me to have a wash and left me, I tried to wash the stuff off my operated leg and passed out for 5 mins which worried then all and so it should, I shouldn't have been left at all. Now apparently i can never give blood as I've had a transfusion. You'll be fine, I'm up and running about now at 17 weeks, just been cutting my grass front and back and then rain stopped play, lol ! Take care just relax and take any pain killers going, it will take a couple of weeks before you begin to feel better.
