Open Hip Tendon Repairs

I had surgery for this 11 weeks ago. Gluteus Medius complete tear, Gluteus Minimus 50 percent tear. Bursectomy and removal of large bone spur. I had pain for seven years with the worst being the last two. It took a long time to get a proper diagnosis. Not every doctor knows everything. Be your own advocate and seek as many opinions as you need until you get an answer. As far as the surgery goes, it's hell. But you have to do it. Take your pain meds, follow all your post op instructions and listen to your PT. This isn't one you want to repeat! Good luck!?

What caused your tears and inflammation?

Not really sure. Multiple falls maybe or wear and tear over time. Maybe a combination. I've been a nurse for 31 years so I've always been on my feet. I run and swim for fitness.

I have a tear in my Gluteus Minimus.  Misdiagnosed as bursitis for years.  Lots of injections that probably made it worse.  Terrible pain at night especially.  Had a PRP injection and then PT.  Helped some but still painful.  Surgery scares the heck out of me.  Looking for a Dr who does arthroscopic repair.  Otherwise just living with the pain.

Do they have any idea how bad the tear is? My doc does arthroscopic repairs but that wasn't an option for me because the tears were to big and chronic. I'm sorry for your pain. It's miserable!! Not a fan of surgery either but pain is a strong motivator. I decided I couldn't live with it anymore.

They only describe it as “substantial”.  Really haven't discussed with a surgeon.  Might try another PRP & PT first.  Plus I just had knee surgery.

Yikes.....I can see why another surgery scares you! A hip surgeon would be the best one to judge. The MRI usually doesn't tell the whole picture. I looked a lot worse on the inside. I so hope you get results from the current treatment you are pursuing! Best of luck!
