Open Inguinal hernia surgery

hi,

I was diagnosed with a inguinal hernia surgery after completing a triathlon.

i had open incision surgery on the 28th dec 2023.

im now 7 weeks into recovery and eager to get back training, unfortunately i got an infection around my staples 8 days after surgery. Antibiotics cleared that up but i feel like im behind the recovery schedule according to most internet sites.

i still have slight pain when wearing jeans as the site is slightly swollen.

if i do long walks or standing for prolonged period, i get a sharp pain in my core area and just to the left of my scar.

there is also a hard ridge under my surface scar.

my question is.... is this all normal and when have people started back training after surgery. my GP said 4-6 weeks....but im a few weeks past this now ?

thanks
