Operation in 4 days!

Hi, I'm new to this group so thought I'd tell you a bit about me! I'm 45, married with 3 lovely kids and I have some troublesome cysts that I'm having removed in 4 days time. I've had 2 septated cysts on my left ovary for some time now which cause me abdominal and back pain and also pains down into my thighs and bottom! I hadn't been scanned for a while even though I was meant to have scans every 6 months but I had a lot going on so pushed it to the back of my mind. I haven't had periods properly for about 3 years now and I'm not on any contraception at all and was a bit concerned when I had a small bleed just after Christmas so thought I'd better get it checked out as sex was a bit uncomfortable too. I was scanned earlier this year and the cysts were still there but I'd since developed a new one on the right hand side! Turned out to be 8.5cm x 7.5cm x 6cm cyst which had grown over my right ovary! They weren't sure whether it had grown on my tube or ovary even when I had a transvaginal scan they couldn't go past it to have a good look. This cyst has a 7mm thick septation running about half way through it with several daughter cysts along the wall and I also have fluid in the pouch of douglas. I've had the ca125 test that came back fine at 21.9 and have seen a gynaecologist who wants to remove both tubes and ovaries and he's hoping to do this by keyhole but he says he won't know if that's possible till he gets in there. I'm a bit nervous about it all and just wanted to share my story to see if the symptoms that I'm having and the sound of the cysts are anything to worry about? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing off others xxxx

Hi Nicky, I've just had open surgery 14 days ago, the first 4 days were painful, but they send you home with ibuprofen and paracetamol for that, mine was 31x14x7 and the surgeon said it weighed 15Ibs when I came round, but be clear when you go in for your pre op what you want. If you don't want a histeroctomy ask them to stop mid way in the surgery, send it for analysis, it does only give a 70% difinitive answer to whether it's benign or malignant, but that was high enough for me, a hysterectomy would be a easier method I'm told of healing, but hey m the same age of you and I've chosen just to lose the one, but that was purely on the size, it was far to big to save to  my left ovary or tube, but I have kept my right, which I am glad about as it maintains you heart.
