Operation postponed

I was turned away at the last moment on 6th march for my hip replacement as I had had a chest infection.
How I have no idea when it can take place and the pain is getting worse and it is getting harder to try and keep fit.
Anyone else in the same boat with tips on what I can do.

I had not got that far just an appointment with my surgeon, which never took place. All elective hips and knees are now cancelled along with some cancer treatments. They were talking about hips being pushed out for a year, but that may just be fake news.

Your operation would of been cancelled anyway due to your chest infection. Not just because off all operations being cancelled because of corona virus. I was all prepped and ready to go into surgery, when the surgeon came in to explain the op and asked me a few questions, when he pulled back the sheet and noticed a cut on my knee, which was three days old!!! Op cancelled than and their!!!! I would rather put up with any pain than take a risk with my life!!! As most people are not allowed to socialise anyway, best time to be a home resting. After finally having my op six months later, I was still confined to my house for over 6 wks as I was unable to get mobile any time earliar!! Take care and best wishes. Linda

I think the real problem is no one knows when they can actually get their op, weeks, months or years. I had my hip done on the NHS last time and waited eighteen months in the end. I decided to go private this time and what should happen - coronavirus, so I may be waiting eighteen months again or even longer!

Anna,
If you do not have one, it might be worth buying a second hand exercise bike. Exercise really does help build muscle hence less pain, you just need to persevere especially, as you will have a longer wait now.

my 2and op has been postponed due to covid 19, and my hip getting worse with pain and stiffness, but I'm damned if going back on high dose pills again....

My op has also been postponed . Can I ask you how you will cope without painkillers which, by the way, I don't think are doing me any good at all.
It's my knee which is really hurting, I've tried a TENS machine but that doesn't really help either.

it's difficult and getting more painful daily.
Think I will be back on my 30/500 cocodamol shortly and maybe back to morphine but I'm just trying to hang on.
it's easier and not on it too much being on lockdown, and using the special chair received with last op which they never collected.
hang in there. if you cannot cope with pain dont. ring your doctor. I just hated the cold turkey coming off them and was always tired on the medication.

I take one co codamol with one paracetamol or just paracetamol 4 times a day as suggested by my GP. I also have dihydracodeine which I use only as a last resort and only one at a time. Also Naproxen anti inflammatories which I'm going to have to stop as they cause an itchy rash and digestive problems. Docs seem very reluctant to prescribe anything else.
As you say lock down is probably helping. Every cloud.

I read something in the press today that they were going to start operating on hips and knees again soon. It may be fake news of course, but it may be true.

Thanks, I just read that article. More of an opinion than fact I think. Fingers crossed though.

I cannot see the NHS restarting to do elective surgeries when they don't even have enough PPE to safely treat those who have to be in hospital.
From my dealings with the telegraph if they have no real news to report on they will just make it up,, I am waiting for hip replacement that was cancelled and I'm told will be one of the first due to hip being completely disconnected and will probably be many months because of the risk of infection, I most definitely do not want to be in their with this going round

last response I got from my hospital was that all elective surgeries cancelled till end of June but could be longer. They said once the all clear is given they will be in touch with a revised date.
tbh until everything is clear with this virus, I do not want it. I want to be safe and confident.
