Operative new hip slightly turned out.

Hi everyone
I am 7 weeks in post hip op and seem to be recovering OK as far as I know, still have odd twinges and pains now and then think it's mostly when I am in the kitchen ,I try not to twist but unfortunately it does happen at times and I get a pain in hip only way to describe it is like someone twanging me with an elastic band. Any one else experience this??
Also I still feel that my right leg ( operative leg) does twist out slightly, when I stand and make it face perfectly the front it feels slightly like I am standing pigeon toed but when I look down I am not .
The Physio on day 2 at the hospital said it would sort itself out as soon as I get up walking ,but it hasn't.
Any ideas anyone???
i have my 8 week post op check with specialist next week so hope he doesn't say it needs sorting .
Looking forward to hear from anyone.
Best wishes fellow hippies X

Hay love , you really need to adhere to all your restrictions, you could still dislocated at 7 weeks lovie. Be careful. . It's sounds very much like a muscle issue but you must see a physiotherapist who will give you the right exercises to correct weakness and any imbalances you have , a good physiotherapist really is essential to a good recovery. x 7 weeks is still early really so please be careful x xxxxx

Hi Bobbi
Thanks for feed back.
Yes will try to be more careful, think it is weak muscles as I was on crutches for 5 months before the op as I was in so much pain and unstable. Think my core lost so much strength in that time ,I am sure my healing process is going to be much slower.
People who haven't had this op just don't understand it I find ,everyone seems to think after 6 weeks you should be back to normal,so makes me question myself am I pampering myself too much , dint think I am.
With best wishes

I totally understand as I was made to wait 3 years for my hip replacement and was house bound using a wheelchair. My body was so weak and unconditioned too . And yes yes yes it dose take much much much longer to recover. it's very hard and frustrating . I'm 9 weeks post op this week and 35 , only just been able to go to one crutch. Physiotherapy is so very important . If we work hard we will get there xxx

Hi Siziemo,
thr can have so many heeling issues as the bone grows to secure the prosthesis. The normal nerves to the brain have been removed in a way since bone joint has been removed and the metal joint placed. It takes time for the messages to restart the signals to the brain . That is why so many of us hippies feel like our hips are not responding. The more you walk exercise and as time passes 6-8 months all will usually be good. Muscles and tendons need to be rebuild as this surgery takes them out. I had no caboose at all after flat as a pancake. Remember the glute squeezes its the most important exercise of them all. Build up core muscles and the i band.
i hope that your next appt goes well. X-ray will show any discrepancies or issues you have. Do follow all the restrictions your physio can help a great deal. Also next appt. ask if water exercises are available. Much easier on the joints. Then after walking and exercising in water you can sit in the hot tob and sort out all those sore muscles.
Peace & heeling blessings sent your way ?

Many Thanks for advise.
Yes trying to do the exercises the best I can.
I do actually find the gluteus exercises quite easy to do and many to do them several times a day which is good.
At last I can now do leg raises on my operative leg .suddenly at week 5 my leg started to lift had totally given up on it ever moving but luckily I was wrong 😀
Tried religiously every day for weeks the suddenly it moved and lifted about 6 inches , yahoo !!!!
Think my muscles are very weak, sure it doesn't help as both knees have really bad arthritus and need replacing too.
Hope all is good with you x

Oh yikes. I totally get the knees as a big pain issue too!
Everthing goes down hill. back, hips, knees, amkels. Drink lots of protein shakes for strength and eat 2200 calories a day for good Heeling. 🍒
Im very happy for you today. 😀You are making progress one baby step at a time. Your gonna get thru this give it time and never compare your progress with someone else.😳
i am taking one day at a time mostly bed ridden from broken prosthesis of only 5 years was recalled by manufacturer. Set date for revision in Jan .
but remain optimistic and do my exe doses to stay strong.💪
Hopexxx

I understand the twitches in the leg. I am 7 weeks post op and still get them.
2 nights ago my operated leg felt like it had a mind of its own and started twitching and moving slightly of its own accord. It was a very strange feeling.
