Opinions on my test results

So I just had a blood test with my new specialist (I moved about 5 months ago) and these are my results (bare with me, there are a lot that I'll list):

RBC  --- 4.87 tera/L (normal is 3.80 - 4.80) ** mine is high

Hemoglobin --- 131 g/L (normal is 120-150)

Hematocrit --- 0.40 (normal is 0.35-0.43)

MCV --- 83 fl (normal is 82-98)

MCH --- 26.9 pg (normal is 27.5-33.5) ** mine is low

MCHC --- 326 g/L (normal is 305-365)

RDW --- 12.9 % (normal is 11.5-14.5)

Platelet Count --- 254 giga/L (normal is 150-400)

Differential

Neutrophils --- 3.5 giga/L (Normal is 2.0-7.5)

Lymphocytes --- 2.3 giga/L (Normal is 1.0-4.0)

Monocytes --- 0.5 giga/L (Normal is 0.1-0.8)

Eosinophils --- 0.1 giga/L (Normal is 0.0-0.7)

Basophils --- 0.0 giga/L (Normal is 0.0-0.2)

Granullocytes Immature --- 0.0 giga/L (Normal is <0.2) biochemical="" investigation="" of="" anemia="" and="" iron="" overload="" vitamin="" b12="" ---="" 1053="" pmol/l (normal="" is="" 150-650) *mine="" was="" high="" but="" i'd="" taken="" a="" supplement="" the="" night="" before="" ferritin="" ---="" 59="" ug/l="" (normal="" is="" 15-180)="" *this="" is="" amazing="" because="" i="" haven't="" had="" a="" phlebotomy="" in="" 15="" months="" general="" chemistry="" hemoglobin="" a1c="" ---="" 5.2="" % (normal="" is="" 4.5-6.0)="" creatinine="" ---="" 50="" umol/l (normal="" is="" 50-100)="" estimated="" gfr="" ---="">120 mL (Normal is <20) alkaline="" phosphatase="" ---="" 136="" u/l="" (normal="" is="" 42-116)="" *mine="" is="" high="" alt="" ---="" 21="" u/l="" (normal="" is=""><50) thyroid="" function="" tsh="" ---="" 2.0="" mu/l (normal="" is="" 0.27-4.2)="" ast="" ---="" 19="" u/l="" (normal="" is=""><30)

now i know people here aren't doctors, but i also know that some of you are very knowledgeable when it comes to blood chemistry in relation to haemochromatosis.

i was wondering if my being high in terms of alkaline phosphatase, b12 (which is whatever, since i know the reason for that one), mcg and rbc is normal for someone with genetic haemochromatosis?

with the rbc, i know that a long time ago my allergy specialist detected that while i had a normal amount of rbc at the time, they were smaller than normal, which means less oxygen, and i suffer from asthma. so i'm thinking that is why i have a higher count, because my body needs to compensate for the lack of oxygen to my lungs.

any thoughts on my results?

Hi Megan, I just lost a lot of what I had typed because I went to another site.  Start again.  I have looked at my last tests similar to yours.  Mine are mostly within the normal range as well with just a couple of odd ones out.  My levels are mostly a tad higher than yours, with a couple a little lower but they are within the normal range.

My MCVs are ALWAYS high and sometimes there is a note saying macrophages are enlarged.  No, I am not an alcoholic and yes, I do have a good Vit B12 level.  I don't like it because about 4 months before my husband was found to have Hodgkins Lymphoma, his MCV had the note of enlarged macrophages and I read there was a connection with cancer.

My globulin is ALWAYS low.  My questioning is always brushed off with an "I am happy with these results".  I think that any problems concerning particular levels have to be supported by other levels being out of whack, so therefore one or two are ignored.

My eGFR 'appears' high too, >90 when reference range is >59.

You have probably answered your own questions about RBC.  Sometimes I think we give the drs ready made answers when we should shut our mouths and have them investigate just in case.

MCG?  Perhaps MCH - looks like it is connected to your RBC - same reason?

ALP - Wikipedia has a long list of nasty possible causes.  Let's hope it is just fatty liver if it is connected in any way to HH, or hormonal contraception!!  Mine are 51 and 60 (4 months apart) - reference range 30-115.  Anything nasty would have other blood tests out of whack.

Ferritin level 59 - that is about as high as I now allow my ferritin levels to get just before a venesection.  I am wondering about your TS% though, it must be low now - which is good!  Mine never gets low, even with a level such as 57 - 107% last blood test.  How can it be more than 100%??  Just goes to show my body is sucking into my organs every bit of iron it gets.  My serum iron is always high too - 47 last test (ref 5-30).

All in all, I get the impression that we are both ok really, and even though our curiosities are peaked, it does not excite the haemotologists.  Which is good! (i guess)

I was definitely trying to not freak out about any of the results considering my doctor hasn't called me, and based on what I've read about him and about my initial meeting with him back in November, I trust him to be honest with me about my results. But if I do feel concerned in any way I'll forward my results to my old specialist and see if he would mind just going over some things with me. Maybe I'll do that anyways and ask why certain levels might be a bit high.

And I know! I looked up what ALP is and everything was fine at first and then it listed a whole bunch of really terrible things lol - I'll let you know what I'm told once i get a response back from the doctor.

And I'm trying to see what level of ferritin I'm good at. At the moment I have a feeling that maybe I'm good at about 45 because I felt really great around June and July of last year and that's about what my level was at that time. I feel like I should be a bit lower than 59 right now though because I had the test done right before my period, so I've lost more blood since then.

So I asked my specialist and he just told me on everything that I was high in, because it was only slight every time, it's not a concern at all. He also said that they don't care about high B12 (which I knew), only low.
