Do you bite your lip? Do you bite your lip without being fully aware that you are biting it? This does not look like herpes to me. Canker sores can appear right where the lips meet, and it is typically brought on from biting the lip.
Another thing to consider is that your lips are VERY full. That is not a bad thing if natural, but I would imagine that it can make them sensitive to trauma. Acidic foods and beverages can cause canker sores. If I ever get one, I apply salt(not salt water)directly to it before it gets bad. IT WILL HURT AFTER APPLICATION, but it will heal so much faster if not stopping it in its tracks entirely.

this is what it looks like now. i phoned my GP and sent him a picture and he said it looked like a cold sore! hope your keeping well and safe
