Oral lichen planus flare-up due to stress?

Posted , 7 users are following.

So I'm not quite sure what's happening but it looks like it's have lichen planus (haven't seen the doc about this yet). It's the 2nd time It's gotten this bad, the first time being last December during final exam season. I've had the white strips on the side of my tongue since December but today it's extra bad. My whole tongue is white (didn't improve much after brushing teeth) and I have the white lines on both sides of my tongue, in the sides of my mouth, and some sort of inflamed sore on the side of my tongue that's making it painful to eat/drink. Can someone confirm if this is lichen planus? I'm swarmed with school and really can't afford to take a day off to see the doc, but will if I absolutely need to.

Hi Jonee, well it does look like it but I’m no medic so it would be best to get it checked. You will see on this forum that we share our conditions to help support each other and I’m sure you will receive support here too. Stress certainly seems to be a key factor for us , over tiredness, and then particular foods irritate the condition like spicey foods, citrus, alcohol. When i was first diagnosed I put myself on a bland diet with no,sharp food to stop the burning and soreness. The marks haven’t gone away but I can live with it more easily. It’s also useful to make sure you see your dental practitioner too so they can keep an eye on things. Hope school is ok for you but do try to look after yourself here and keep your stress to a minimum of you can. Take good care, Gailx

    Go see a doctor ASAP,

Forget abour school and go check yourself. I left my condition worsen to the point where it spread all over my lips.

Cancer might also have the same symptomes.I don t mean to scare you.

In your case since it s on both sides it s unlikely to be cancer.

    Go and check it immediately.

With me it’s definitly stress related. Mine was confirmed by biopsy. As others here have said, you need to make time to go to a dentist or doctor. What works to clear mine when it’s bad is Prednisol dissolvable tablets. I swish them around my mouth for 5 mins then spit it out. Also non minty tooth pastes are good. The dental hospital told me to make sure if I was using kids toothpaste that it had enough fluoride. I got one online called Oranurse. It’s non foaming & flavorless. That was recommended to me. Look after yourself.
