Oral Lichenoid Reaction

Hi, I was recently prescribed sertraline for anxiety, health anxiety in fact and it resulted in oral lichen planus on the inside of one cheek. I stopped the medication immediately but it has persisted (for over a month now) and has actually got quite sore. There is an ulcer as well as the white lacy lines. Has anyone else had a drug reaction like this and if so, when did it improve? I believe this is an oral lichenoid reaction as a opposed to true OLP, given it occurred when I took medication and is one sided. I'm feeling very anxious about the possible malignant transformation 😔. Thank you for your help!

Don't worry too much about cancer it's pretty rare . The worse thing for olp is stress !! Mine has been persistent for 18months but lately has been getting better I've been using CBD oil for five weeks and this is the first time I've been pain free !!! Have you been to docs to get it diagnosed ? X

Thank you for your message. I appreciate it!  Ah, so stress makes it worse, that explains why it has being getting worse. I must try to relax a little. Sorry to hear you've been suffering with it but this CBD oil sounds good! What exactly is it? I'm definitely going to get some. Yes I saw my dentist, my GP and and an oral surgeon. x

I'm not allowed to say much about oil on this forum but Google it ! I got it from healthspan UK (reputable company) also if you Google lichen planus it will give you lots of info on things to not eat etc . Coconut oil is very soothing for mouth too xx

Thank you! I'll do that. I'm also giving Q10 oil a go (I have to be a bit careful as I am breastfeeding), will let you know if it helps. I have already started to watch what I eat. I've said "bye bye" to all alcohol which I am trying to see as a positive step. Keep well and thank you for talking to me. I don't know anyone else with this problem and I hadn't even heard of it until it happened to me xx

Hi I’ve found “Closys” toothpaste and mouth wash is awesome. The mouth wash comes with a mild mint you can add which my mouth won’t tolerate so I don’t add it. I’ve had OLP for about 4 years now. It comes and goes depending on stress and if I slip and eat something acidic. You can purchase the Closys on Amazon and WalMart. Good luck!!

You're definitely not alone ! I don't think the oil I recommend is any good if you're breastfeeding. Keep up the good work with cutting out irritating foods n drinks it's annoying but if it stops the pain it's worth it xxx

Thank you all!  I shall try Closys too.  My oral surgeon as put me on Synalar for a few weeks - if I remember to use it 4 times a day it keeps the symptoms and pain at bay - however, I don't want to rely on a topical steroid - so it's good to hear you guys try alternative therapies - that is definitely my preference! Thanks again. x
