I know ice pack helped with my LP. Try sipping cold ice water. Idk if it will work but I do know cold was and is my friend.

Hi whoops. LP is a very disappointing thing to deal with. Everybody is different and some treatments work for some and not for all. When I got really bad my LP was so painful, my mouth and lips swelled so badly!

The itching drove me crazy. I was taking the mouthwash you are on and in fact I use it because it is one of the best. I decided to get a federal to a dermatologist because they specialize in LP. I received one cortisone injection in my gums. I will tell you it was painful but I wanted it to go away so badly. I then every two weeks came in for a

shot in my bottom. That wasn't so bad. I was give a steroid paste to put on sores and he told me the injections would work, how long depended. I went in one more time got the injection, refilled the nystatin and cream and never had to return. I did only to show him my success with his help. That was 10"yrs. ago. I have had two brief episodes but was under control with oral steroid. I hope you have quick results with your LP and don't have to suffer too long. God bless you.

Hi sorry the mouthwash was nystatin. I had the gel lidocaine to put on after mouth was. That helped the pain. Made a boo boo❗

it seems that steroid mouthwashes often only help while you are using them but then the OLP returns.  I have discussed oral steroids with my GP and he is not too interested, thinks it is not a good idea because of the overall side effects of taking oral steroids, which I know can cause problems but think it is worth a very low dose trial at least.    ...  may just need to find a new GP. ... willing to give it a try as I do not want to put up with this forever!

Please let me know if you do give the oral steroids a try and let me know the dosage and how you make out etc.  It should work!

It just seems like the logical next step. I hope they let me give it a shot. This swollen burning tongue is unbearable

Hi whoops, when I went to my primary doctor he said that he was going to refer me to a dermatologist. He treats oral lichen planus. This doctor did not over prescribe the cortisone or steroid medication. It wasn't a long and I was free of it all. I had a total of 4 injections of low dosage. After suffering for almost a year and seeing the dermatologist for 2 months I was a very

happy needless to say. The side affects of steroids are bad if you don't take them correctly. It's been 10 years and two break outs since. I wish all of you the best.

    God bless everyone!.

Thank-you for the steroid protocol which worked for you.  I hope I can get a Dermatologist to prescribe this for me also!  I am on a wait list to see the specialist, booked for April 2017!!!  I'm on a cancellation list so hopefully it will happen sooner.  I did see one but he didn't seem to know anything and is moving next month, grrrr    Your story really makes me hopeful for things to work out,  as opposed to many who seem to get no help for years.  THANKS!  Take care ...

Hi Margaret29034, I hope you are able to get help for your LP. You have to wait so long to see the specialist. I live in the U.S. Where do you live? Maybe even getting a new GP would help. I will send prayers for so you don't have to suffer in longer.

Good luck and God Bless you.

We live in Canada,  so much for our "superior medical system" lol...  Yes, we don't pay but we DO wait.  I could see others sooner but this one has a good reputation for excellence and so think I'll try and wait it out ...  No worries, I am not in real pain like many seem to be, just some burning etc.I have my fingers crosssed for you too!

I too have oral lichen planus. This is the treatment that I've followed and it works wonders. When it erupts I'm ordered 10 days of Diflucan which are tablets, 10 days of Nystatin mouth swish and swallow, and Magic Swizzle mouth wash for the pain. I seem to be having flare ups every 3 months. Although Lichen is not a yeast it must be treated as such...

wow that is why when I was treated for a yeast infection with diflucan my olp seemed to get better. I only took one diflican tablet but my mouth seemed better for a few days. I am allergic to lidocaine, anything else help the pain?
