I started 2 weeks ago also and I'm on the Slimfast diet with it. My fat intake too, is way lower than what Alli suggested for me (approx 22g per day) so I was skeptical whether it was enough for the tablets to work. I lost 5Ib in my first weigh in! So my answer would be yes, keep at it.

I've been taking 3 despite some of my meals only having 6g fat. I guess if you keep a record of your intake and number of tabs, you'll be able to compare your progress each week, then you'll know if reducing them makes a difference.
