Orlistat/Xenical - 9lbs in 9 days! :-)

Hello!

I was prescribed Xenical, which is another name for Orlistat, on Thursday (31st July). I started that day, weighing in at 244lbs (17st 4lbs), and today over a week later,I weighed in at 235lbs (16st 7/8lbs), so basically I have lost a good 9lbs!

I couldnt believe it to be honest. The first few days was tough, as some of the foods I was eaten was a little high in fat, and the results could be seen with oil floating on the toilet bowl water. However, something in my brain clicked to say, ok, stay away from fat. So for the last I began a low fat diet and have stuck to it since.

I found myself, and its only a week, be more careful of what I eat. I was big into snacking, and eating junk, crisps, chocs, biscuits, but now I feel that I have no interest in them. I do believe that Xenical/Orlistat does have a pyschological impact on our vision of what we eat, probably arising from the side effects if we indulge on fatty foods.

I am 26 years of age, and feel I found something which is helping me loose the weight which has been having a negative effect on my life.

I am glad to see that most people here are finding positive results too, and to those who are not loosing weight as quick etc, just watch the diet and try to keep meals fat free. For snacks, I would have 2 rice cakes and pour fat free yoghurt on top, they are quite filling and you dont feel depressed after it as you would if it were a bag of crips, which in turn you would feel like another! Yer talking to a pringle fan here, who easily devour a tube at a time!

One question I would like to ask, if there was some here who has been long term on the tablet, how has it been and how much have they lost? Most of discussions here are only starting so it would be good to hear from someone who has been on it long term etc

I want to wish every one the very best in their journey to their ideal weight. It is acheivable and I know sometimes people may feel how can a tablet do this, but I do feel it has helped me big time, so far anyways, but I am hoping that it will help me!

Love to hear from other people, even to have peer support etc

Yours,

John!

Well done John! I too have started Orlistat and have a lot of weight to lose so its good hearing from someone who has had a substantial loss. Im using this forum to hear similar stories and keep in touch with people on a similar path as mine. I dont think of myself being on a 'diet' whilst taking Orlistat (Xenical) as I have been dieting all of my adult life and Im 54 now and the biggest I have ever been. I think of them as my 'reminder' to eat healthily at each meal, so as to avoid any side effects and to enable them to do what they are meant to do. I cant comment on the efficacy of them because I have only been on them for days. I will have to check in at the end of the week. Good Luck and long may your weight loss continue!

    9lbs is great

im only on day 3, so far no dodgy side effects smile I have 3 stone to loose...well really 4 but my goal is 3 by nov 12th (holiday)

I'll do my own weigh in on mon when I go for an early swim

This has defo made me look at packaging im shocked at the fat content of some products so im hoping this will be the discipline I need. I exercise well so its my eating I need to improve

ive also realised all my socialising is around food so yesterday and today I had to be very careful.

Hi, I have been on Orlistat since the end of March and in that time I have lost over 6 1/2 stone.

I still have plenty to lose and until the last couple of weeks I have found my journey relatively easy. The last few weeks have been more difficult, not that I have returned to the food or portion sizes I ate before but I have found it more difficult.

I need to get my motivation back and continue on my weight loss journey, I am not going back to where I came from. Good luck everybody on the start of your journey to a new lighter you.

Wow well done Adam! That is some going! I think we all lose our mojo at some point when we are losing weight, its a natural ebb and flow of our psyche. Its about getting back on track and like you say refusing to go back to where you came from. There is no doubt about it that when trying to lose weight, change our lifestyles, etc the slog can be difficult. But its about breaking it all down. If I think of the amount I have got to lose now, I wont even start at this point... but Im looking at it in chunks of two stone at a time. Pat on the back for yourself, you have succeeded where so many fail. Think on this and onwards and upwards Adam! All the best and please keep us all informed of your progress!

Plenty of us here have been on them a while

Started Jan 2013 size 24 now a 12 they have worked for me.

I started up a blog to help other people on here with what to eat etc as i know how difficult the early days are and how unhelpful the Doctors are...!

    Good luck with your journey

HI Britney!  Its great that such a forum exists, as it has eased my mind a little after reading other peoples experiences of using Orlistat. Fantastic that you have reduced so much. It gives me hope!

Thank you for your well wishes Britney! And yes, everyone here has some weight to lose, whatever amount that is. I am the same weight that you started at and you have given me so much inspiration, knowing that it can be done. Like you, I have tried Orlistat before many years ago, but this time I feel more 'ready' to tackle my weight. Especially as at this age, general aches and pains are increasing anyway, without the added burden of carrying around the equivalent of a slim woman on my back all day!

You need a GP prescription but you need to commit to a very low fat diet or you will have embarrasing side effects

The tabs don't work on their own - you do the hard work the tablets do a helping hand and cos of the side effects makes you disciplined to eat correctly
