osteo arthritis in right thumb

just over a yr ago i had surgery on my left thumb and have been taking injections in the right thumb. the injections don't seem to be working as well anymore. i know that means i should have the surgery, but as miserable as i was with my left hand being out of commission i can only imagine how bad it will be with my right hand out. i am right handed and love crafts. i am also extremely claustrophobic and one of the biggest problems was the cast getting tangled in my blankets and causing panic attacks
Does anyone have any suggestions on management of a cast

Christine sorry to hear about your thumb pain. both mine are toast. i totally get it. i had surgery on my rt hand and every little thing was a major deal. pre surgery found helpful ways to do things without my right hand. it was a struggle at first but it was only temporary. set things out ahead of time from toothbrush to toothpicks for easy access saves time and frustration. also add a commode seat that is a adapatable aide to add on for a bidet. reachers are helpful too.
it takes time and therapy after surgery for healing.
sleeping with ice and elevation with the arm out from bed coverings on a pillow while was helpful . panic attacks can be helped by medication and if you choose surgery ask your dr about what he recommends since he knows your medical history.
have you tried thumb splints. instead of surgery? I wear FIXXGLOVE splints every night see online. very helpful . Every hurdle we get thru in life makes us stronger. stay strong. best wishes.
