Osteoarthritis and knee replacement

I have had OA for about 18 years now.  I was 46 when it was diagnosed and 51 when I had to have my left knee replaced.  I seemed to recover not too badly and then 8 years ago my right hip went and it had to be replaced too.  I thought that this was the end of the replacement surgery then low and behold my right knee went on strike and decided it wanted to be like my left knee.  On February this year my right knee was replaced.  Though I am recovering from the op well it is the tired feeling I am fed up with.  During the day I am tired and sometimes have to go and lie down.  I wasn't like that when I got my last knee done.  Has anybody else had the same experience.  I am so fed up with myself.  I had to have a blood test last week and found out that I lack vitamin D and have now been put on medication for this.  Can anybody help me.  Thanks.

I have just had a joint replacement and got pretty fed up afterwards because I couldn't get about much. I have also suffered with tiredness and a lack of vitamin D. GIven that the sun is now out, well sometimes, have you tried getting outside and see if you feel any better. For me it seemed to take a while to get over this. I also found more exercise helped.

Hello,  I have also suffered from Septic Arthritis since the age of 11, which developed into OA. I had my left knee replaced when i was 39 and then a revision one done at the age of 54.  I have OA in my right knee now and hving electrical therapy on that and have had OA in my lower back since the age of 40. I am due for a 2 yearly check up tomorrow on my left knee.  So i can understand the difficulities Arthritis brings.  Do you think you maybe low on iron. Do you eat a healthy balanced diet?

Recovery takes A LOT out of you! First, there is the surgery which is pretty crazy intense! Then there is all the effort it takes to move even a bit! Pain medication makes you tired. PAIN itself makes you tired. The body has suffered a GREAT TRAUMA. THAT makes you tired!

If you are like me you probably slept very little if at all while in the hospital. Very noisy places those hospitals!

Maybe you were rundown when you went into this. I know I haven't slept eight hours straight in YEARS! THAT alone takes its toll and can put you into an almost permanent. ZOMBIE STATE!

I have taken a multivitamin with iron since teen years. Check your vitamins. I was surprised that many vitamins for older women have little or no iron in them. I take the regular Women's vitamins which do have iron.

Try naps if possible. Sometimes an hour at the right time when you are really tired feels like several hours of sleep. Can be very refreshing!

    Happy resting!
