Osteomyelitis Support

Can anyone recommend a support group/charity/etc for osteomyelitis or those who suffered from microbiological induced illness?

Also can anyone recommend a really good firm of solicitors who specialise in this field?

Frank, I don't know of any or seen any browsing the web the last two months since I was diagnosed with it. Since it is not a well known disease the only people that I've spoken to that are familiar with it are in the medical field Good Luck

    Hello Frank8888,

I'm afraid I haven't come across a specialist solicitor for osteomyelitis.

The only microbiological induced illness charity I have come across regarding osteomyelitis is https://www.drugs.com/answers/support-group/osteomyelitis/. ; It doesn't appear to be a UK site but I think it would be a really good idea. Just looking at the frequency of discussions on this forum there is more than enough need for one.

The one recurrent thing that strikes me is that osteomyelitis seems to fail to be recognised in a timely fashion across the NHS. Like with sepsis there needs to be a campaign to compel all health professionals to be alive to the possibility of the infection from the start, rather than being constantly caught by surprise.

I had the infection as a child in 1986, and a nurse on the ward recognised the symptoms in the first 3 days of my being on the ward, but apparently wasn't allowed to suggest this to the paediatric doctors. I recently obtained my hospital notes from that time, and it brought back how I was treated by staff. I was large for my age, but found I wasn't being treated as ill, but as attention seeking, surly, and spoilt. It was only after 10 days that testing for osteo myelitis was considered, and discovered it, and then I was treated as a sick patient.

My reason for waxing lyrical about it here is that in 2018 after my experience 32 years ago and living with the consequences, this infection should not catch any medical practicioner in the UK by surprise, and it seems to be becoming more common, so if there is no UK charity/support group dealing with microbiological illnesses then it is time to create one to help others going through this.

    Best of luck.
