Osteoporosis after cancer treatment

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis after cancer treatment (chemo and radiations). The calcium level in my reports is good i.e. 9.9 but there is a deficiency of Vitamin D. I have started taking the supplements for Vitamin D plus an injection after every 6 months. My question is what are the chances of recovery with good calcium level? What kind of diet should be taken in this case?

    Hi sadia10252!

Have lots of veggies and fruit, yoghurt, prunes, avocados, leafy greens, bony broth and a good all round diet. Take vitamin K2 to aim the calcium onto the bones, do some weight bearing exercise like walking. Magnesium is another one found to be lacking in people with osteoporosis.

What are your tscores and where are you?

Hope this helps and all the best,

    Kathleen.

T-score for spine is -3.7SD and for hip, it is -2.5.

I am underweight and I am in Pakistan.

Hi Sadia its awful that you are having to cope with cancer and the treatment that goes with it but hopefully you are in remission now and to answer your question, yes you.can improve with correct medication and the right diet, weight training done with good supervision is really excellent for poor bone density, swimming is good and obviously walking.
