Osteoporosis and the parathyroid hormone

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had further investigation of their osteoporosis and discovered that it's possibly down to a malfunctioning parathyroid (i.e., para gland not managing calcium correctly), and if so, did you have a successful operation to sort it?

Yes, my osteoporosis is from a parathyroid adenoma. I have had surgery and am on the path to healing. I get my one year dexa scan in October but took a good fall today and didn't break anything so think some bone strength is returning.

How did you find out you had a parathyroid adenoma?

I had a lump show up on my neck and I had been getting progressively fatigued. Had a blood test and found high calcium and low d. I was then put on vit d and became very ill. I had a huge disagreement with my GP as to what was wrong with me so got to an endocrinologist and got surgery. My adenoma was a minimum of 10 years old and the size of a golf ball.

I will definitely check with my doctor.  I had half my thyroid gland removed in 1987 & have been on thyroid medication ever since. At the time of my osteoporosis diagnosis he also reduced my thyroid perscription in half.

Hmmmm  need to check that out!
