Osteoporosis drug with the fewest side effects?

Hi, I have spinal osteoporosis and although I haven't seen a specialist yet, I will probably be faced with having to take meds. I don't like the sound of any of them, but if I do have to ultimately, I want to take the lowest possible dose of the drug that has fewest side effects. Has anyone taken a drug they've not been otherwise affected by? And also, did it improve/halt your osteoporosis?
I am also doing all the lifestyle stuff but I don't know if that alone can halt/reverse it.
Any advice welcome

Sorry about the name change, was locked out of my account so had to re-register.
I agree about the calcium, but I find that most multivits or combo supplements contain far too much calcium (1000ug) and even Vit D. It's hard to get a supplement with complementary amounts of calcium, vit D, magnesium, boron, and K2. Even the one I'm on, which I like, only says Vit K, which is probably K1, and doesn't have boron. So I'd have to supplement separately with those.
I will definitely start the Nordic walking and I want to do a very challenging weights program too.
The worry I have is that even radically changing things now, esp exercise and supplements (because my diet is good), I probably will have to wait a year for another scan, and if it's worse despite my best efforts, I'll have lost that time and have to medicate anyway! It's just such a tough decision

I make sure I have enough boron by eating a few prunes every day. I get a bit more magnesium by soaking in a bath with Epsom salts. Bones grow (and shrink) slowly. Even a year is not that long, and if you are indeed doing all the right things, sounds like you are already well on the way, then I think the chances that you will see any deterioraton is very low. It's much more likely that you'll be like me and see improvement. Google combination micronutrients bone density and you will find research showing that diet can improve bone density.

That's really interesting Anhaga, I'm going to modify my supplement intake accordingly. Thanks to you all for your views, I feel a lot more positive now. Another thing they say should be knocked on the head is coffee and alcohol. I have one coffee a day and don't drink a huge amount of alcohol but do drink now and again. I suppose I have to give up those simple pleasures as well?!! I already cut refined sugar a few years ago and don't like trans fats so I guess it's hard to sacrifice everything!

I don't see why. I drink tea and have coffee about once a week. I also have the occasioanl social drink. A little of what you like is good for you.

I won't give up my tea ever! Life would not be worth living if one had to give up everything!
