Hi all after going to my gp for the last four years with burning, discharge too that burns , irritation , and urine frequency my Gp said I have atrophic vaginits . He prescribed gynest cream which I have used for 2 weeks and then twice a week for the last six weeks . There doesn't seem to be any change . I'm at mywits end with this even though all swabs and examinations came back clear . Do you think I should ask to see a gynaecologist . Fed up now and advice ladies I would be very grateful sad

I don't think untill you've had this any one seems to understand the agony,I have a month now been feeling a normal person I have settled down to Vagifem every 4/5  days & inserting ky jelly sml amount about 5 days out of 7 when I ran out of that any kind of lubricant hope this helps If no joy with a GP insist on seeing a gynaecologist or even a practice nurse first mine had much more empathy & it was her who persevered & found a solution fingers crossed mine is gone

Thankyou for your help . I think the way forward is to see a gynaecologist to see if there is anything else wrong . Really annoying and anyone else who has this problem you have my full sympathy . It's awful sad

Maybe when women run into this lack of understanding with their GP's they should return with literature from the gynecologist for the benefit of the next woman. Although all the GP would need to do is Google the symptoms! Guess it's not easy to have an understanding of something that sounds trivial unless you get to experience it yourself. I often feel silly bringing up small complaints with my GP because I realize patients before & after me probably have far worse problems, but I forge ahead. If I don't take care of myself who will?

Glad you're feeling better (from one who knows).

I could not tolerate the gynest cream and have asked for a gynae appointment which is soon. Ongoing back and fro to docs for about 2 years now. Never tried Vagifem had something similar forgot name and that did not agree either got awful headaches from it. Natural treatment I started Premeno certainly taking away dryness just started it so hoping it will sort dryness so I can make love again.

Read  literature on-line re Premeno and it sounds really appealing as you avoid hormones and the possible problems that come along with them. However, it seems not to be available in the U.S. Tried to print up the PDF to give to my gyno, but my printer wouldn't do it(?) Will persevere although it is my doctor who is concerned about my vaginal state and possible future problems, not me. Difficult to make a decision when thereare no apparent problems.

Thankyou all for your help and information . Anything at all ,even talking about it can make you feel like your not on your own with this horrible thing . What annoys me is the fact no one seems to talk about this side of the effects of the menopause .I even said that to my GP and he admitted they don't it's all about the hot flushes mostly . Oh well all we can do is keep on trying different things smile
