Our own research

I wonder if there are any "techies" out there that could draw up an online questionnaire to see what all us HS sufferers have in common.   My doctor told me for years that the reason I was getting recurring boils/abscesses was that I was overweight and needed to keep my body cleaner. I admit I was about a stone overweight, but I couldn't have been more clean, showering morning and evening and using antiseptic wipes inbetween.

In the past, I've wondered whether it's due to lots of things like :

Being overweight

Having curly hair therefore deformed hair follicles

thick skin

Overheating of body temperature

Excessive Sweating

Food intolerance

Becoming stressed/anxious

Washing too much

Picking up a bug from a stay in hospital

Having excess mucus eg post nasal drip

Some form of reaction to domestic Pets

Hormonal

To name a few

There seems to have been very little research in the past, so maybe it's time we did our own. Does anyone know of such a person who could design and implement an online questionnaire?

I suppose we could start off with a simple spreadsheet.

Good idea/bad idea?

This would be a good idea Kaymate.  I don't think it is down to hygiene coz I am clean to and a friend who has it badly is also very clean.

I understand it is more common in smokers,  being overweight, at change of life and those who generally suffer skin problems such as acne which I have.

I think you can be too clean - don't forget good bacteria as well as bad live on our skin and your don't want to get rid of the good as well.

But as a dermatologist told me and doctors there could be a million reasons and no one knows for sure what the cause is.  I think it is a bug which lives in our system and maybe everyone has it but for those like us who are sensitive to it it shows itself in skin eruptions.  Who knows?

It is not a fashionable illness and it probably won't kill you so there is very little research into it.

I don't know anyone who is knowledgeable about it to the extent of designing on on line questionnaire but I think a spreadsheet would be a great idea.  Can you do that?

You can use Survey Monkey to set up a free survey, if that helps.

Thank you BooHoo.  Have had a look but I am not techy enough to do this.  Perhaps someone else could?   x
