Any tips for going out and about and using public toilets, concerned about my 12 week precautions but don't really want to carry my raised toilet seat with me all the time

Good question! This where one of my PT's exercises really helps - essentially a chair squat. She started me on this at week 3 and it helps me tremendously whenever I am out of my own home and hosts are not considerate enough to install a raised toilet seat in their guest bathroom! 😂😆

Early on while still using my walker, I would set the brakes and use the handles of the walker to help me lower and raise myself.

Good luck and good news to hear you are ready for extended outings - so good to have this freedom again.

    Hugs,

Hi - I just hovered whilst clutching on to anything handy ! I managed but not always easy ! Go sooner rather than later so you're not desperate . It's great to be out and about and worth the discomfort I thought . Go for the disabled loo if you can as they're usually higher , only other thing I can suggest is is hovering is difficult a blow up rubber ring can help and fits in a handbag xxxx

Use disabled loo if you can. Buy a sheewee, the gadget that enables ladies to stand to wee. Lots use them when camping, practice in the shower first as there is a knack to using one

    Barmaid18,

Life is all about chances we take, choices we make if you are willing to take those chances try to increase the odds in your favor as much as you can handle. My THR came off fine, bent my hip past the recommended angle did stuff before the doctors said it was safe. All my choices, hip still feels fine 16 years since the op., so your life is what it is, yours. PPL die all the time, it's all down to the odds. My hero, my cousin Larry is goin in on Mon. for prostate exploratory I pray to God the odds are in his favor. A kinder more caring person does not exist.

I am just giggling at the range of replies you've had, and then thinking 'oh my ! I hadn't considered going for a wee when out and about' so Thankyou for the heads up on that one !!! Ha ha - still giggling, I don't know why , I think it's the thought of a blow up seat in my handbag, my friends would have a field day with that one. I might do it just for fun !!!!

    Good luck. X

    hi barmaid,

    Hi barmaid,

I agree with previous comments -- at 12 weeks it shouldn't be a problem anymore - practice at home and use Toilet for disabled when available -

My thing was to get there on time rolleyes

    big warm hug

This can definetely present a problem. I have been out and about in public quit a bit this past week (now 3.5 weeks post op) and did have to use a public toilet the other day. I had to really hang onto the handicap bar for support but managed alright. I was worried about this same thing since I seem to be worse than a little kid and can't leave home but for a few minutes without having to stop somewhere to go...Barb
