Hi all, was diagnosed with anxiety about eighteen months ago, was prescribed bromazapam which worked well, came off them and started on escitapram five weeks ago,it's taken a while for them to kick in but seem to be getting there, my question is, i know this happens i have good days and bad days, what i can't understand is when i'm having a good day i feel great and think i'm there, no negative thoughts have more motivation and energy then all of a sudden bang ! waves of sensations come over me, light headed, sensations in chest, dizziness and sometimes sweating, and feeling sick after eating, is this normal?.

unfortunately, that is how anxiety works. You can be feeling absolutely wonderful, then all of a sudden , You can get 10 symptoms at one time. as far as anxiety goes, it’s normal.
this happens to a lot of people who have anxiety.
As long as you’re getting a physical check up with your doctor at least once a year, then get on with your life. I find that the more I focus on my symptoms the worse I feel and the more symptoms I get.
I know it’s difficult when you feel that way. What I do is relax my mind as much as possible. I listen to great meditations on YouTube for anxiety.I try to stay busy so I don’t focus on myself.
You might consider getting some counseling for your anxiety even if you don’t feel it, there still can be underlying anxiety that causes the symptoms.
take care

Thank you jan, you're right about feeling better when busy and active, been forcing myself to go for walks and try to go golf when i can, have been putting it off lately as a couple of months back i had an anxiety attack when i got there my heart started beating so fast i thought i was going to have a heart attack, although this has happened before it's still frightening, i do have regular check ups so as far as i know all is well, i do know it's all irrational thoughts but so difficult to get out of, will try the youtube videos they can only help.

Hello John , just read your post and it all sounds so familiar, I feel bad for you as anxiety is a dreadful beast to live with . I can't tell you how many times I've been into A and E convinced I'm having a heart attack , all fine of course but I take some convincing .. we need reassurance and comfort all the time it seems and when one horrid symptom goes away another takes over to obsess about , its horrible. I'm hoping your medication works and helps you feel better and I'm sure it will in time . I have been prescribed the same but im too scared to take it ,anxiety again - what if this , what if that .... awful. Your right when you say about keeping busy it does help, I go for walks and try to enjoy nature , listening to the birds etc but when I get home all the thoughts start again so it's trying to find that something to occupy our minds to help with the overthinking. I wish you well, you're not alone .

HI Foxy, been to A&E on three occasions, one time, with the symtoms i described they suspected a stroke, kept me in for two days, had brain scan, echo gram on my neck arteries, two lots of tests with neurology consultants, all came up clear it wasn't till another visit to A&E a few months later with racing heart that after another load of tests that came up all clear that the duty doctor diagnosed anxiety, now after all the tests that iv'e had that came up clear you would think i would be happy but once i was told i had anxiety it seemed to make matters worse, i started to get anxious about having anxiety, seems like a never ending spiral, finding this forum has helped no end it's so good to talk to other sufferers who know exactly what i'm going through, it's very difficult to talk to friends and family who have no idea.

just remember that any symptoms related to anxiety cannot hurt you. Even the racing heart.
when your heart is racing, there’s a perfect short thing to listen to on YouTube that works for me every time!
Search for something called stop panic attacks now. Then scroll down to one called don’t panic. It’s in black letters with a white background.
She talks you through it and your heart rate will start to slow down. You can do this anywhere . .
breathing properly during anxiety is the key to managing a lot of the symptoms.

Hi John
It could have been me writing this, I am exactly the same. I was doing good for a couple of days but today I've been anxious, palpitations and dizziness. I reduced my citalopram about 6 months ago and still getting withdrawal symptoms, a lot like start up symptoms. I try to ignore it but it's not easy.
Take care😊

Hi John,
If you have only been on escitalopram for five weeks and came off bramazapam around the same time, you are probably getting withdrawal effects from the bramazapam and start up effects from the escitalopram. That could explain all of your symptoms.

Thanks for all your comments, so reassuring that my symptoms are shared by others, just being on this forum has helped me as much if not more than the medications, am getting such good advice rather than google which had me thinking i had everything wrong with me that could be wrong. will try to stay positive and wait until my meds kick in.
