Ovarian cancer scare

Posted , 13 users are following.

Hi there I have been suffering with stomach and pelvix pain for about 2 weeks now. Also bowel changes but think that's part of IBS. I had blood tests and doctor rang today to say CA125 levels were slightly raised. I am waiting an ultrasound but so scared it could be cancer! I read that it can show other cancers too & noticed last few days both my nipples been inverted. I've always had one but not 2.

Can anymore shred anymore, hopefully positive thoughts/advice on the CA125 levels. The pain is in pelvic area, down left hand side and around back 😔

Thanku

Hi Lisa, I've been getting low one sided pain too and also back ache, a late period for 1st time and also raised lymph node in groin x dr referred me for scan and my ca125 level also raised at 47. I am 47 and my mum died of breast cancer at my age so feel your worry. Anyway scan was clear and now being referred to gynae for a closer look like endometriosis and also I have developed food intollerances over last 2 years to lactose and wheat and onions so also suffer with my bowels! So getting them checked too on light of raised reading to be sure x x but dr did say it is boarder line and like the others it would be in hundreds so try not to worry x x

Ah thanku. I will feel better after scan altho I saw Locum doc today as was so worried. Pain getting worse! sad she said straight away to stop the lansopramole as this would make stomache alot worse and go back in omeprezole. It's not definite but after feeling my tummy she said could b diverticulitis 😳 but with symptoms I've had, and change in bowels the last cpl of weeks I'm wondering whether this could b the problem rolleyes hopefully I'll know more nxt week

Thanku for sharing ur experience. Let me know how it goes smile

Do u get a lot of upper abdomen pain? Sometimes down the sides and radiates to the back? Feels so sore just below the breast bone sad

I've had loads of pain like that which was caused by tension x but also tins that feel like they are swollen but that is dairy for me x
    • Posted

I can't believe the pains u can get from worrying and tension. I never used to b like this. I am unhappy in my job and worry a lot about other stuff. I really need to focus on getting better and improve my diet! smile

You are naturally tense because of what is going on, pain leads to tension which leads to pain which leads to another vicious circle and the finding of muscles you never knew you had!! smile

I had another funny turn this morning. Felt weak and lightheaded. Thought I was going to faint! sad don't understand because since saw doctor and assured me CA levels were nothing to worry about. I've felt bit more at ease. Something definitely  going on in my body, lets hope scan shows something tomorrow rolleyes

Funnily enough that can be relief along with the normal things like standing quickly or for a long time, moving your head quickly, not really having eaten or drunk propery and so on
    • Posted

Are you still breathless as that can do it?
    • Posted

Yes but only a little. It came on bit like a migraine where u can c zig zags at the side of your eyes. Had bit of headache but nthg major. It could have been a migraine brought on by worry sad feel such a hypercondriac atm rolleyes
    • Posted

Get those myself and can make you lightheaded and dizzy. Asked about the breathlessness as that would be an obvious cause.

Hey you might feel it but we all have times when we do and what you are coping with is enough to make anyone feel like a hypercondriac. Doesn't mean what you feel is not real though and that people should be irritated by it.

Ah thanks taz. I am just trying to b positive now smile I will let u know as soon as I get a diagnosis. Results will b faces over tomorrow so hoping to know by Tuesday the latest smile thanks for all ur support xx

Hi taz. Had the scan today. Was told had cyst on right ovary! I've felt so uncomfortable. Do u know what the next stage is and what is best to take for the pain? I believe that u can feel dizzy with cysts. It only came on within ths last week or so & it's horrible so I definitely think if an option I'll have it removed. Then I'll b worrying about having it done! sad

Depends on type is as to what next. If symptomatic removal is recommended. If Ibuprofen doesn't work try co-codamol. If one can buy over the counter doesn't work get a prescription for co-codamol as that is three times as strong as one can buy
    • Posted

Symptomatic is not a type by the way, though sure you realise that, it just means if causes symptoms such as pain

Thanks  taz. I feel bit breathless and dizzy. Is this normal sad she said left ovary 4. Something but right 9. Something. I'm going away next week so but worried !
    • Posted

Is normal.breathlessness will cause dizziness and is commonly caused by the cyst pressing on the diaphram . The one on my R was 7.5 and the one on the left 4.2. Removal is recommended when over 5 and generally do both at once

I had travel sickness tablets to hand for when the diziness got too bad, generally could ignore it and got those over the counter - Stugeron they are called. If feel not be enough see your GP and get a presciption.

Try and enjoy your holiday as a change of scene should be good for you. Don't expect miracles though but enjoy as much as can

Big hugs and my thoughts are with you

Hi taz thanku. Feel better for that thought it was all in my head 😳 when I look back over the last few mths of not feeling myself I'm just relieved I know why now, as I just thought It was me!

Do u mind me asking how was u after the op? I'm kind of worrying about that now but I am happy to have it done as I know I'm going to feel so much better smile x

Summed up in one word - RELIEVED.

Still getting over it as only been home a week. Breathlessness better, pain has virtually gone and is getting better by the day, appetite improving again. So all in all no regrets

Me again and yes I did have a CT and an MRI as well as the ultrasound. Each is better for different types of cyst and gives a differant view anyway. It is not unusual...

      A bit thanks.

All you need is yet more confusion.

There are certain types of cyst that resolve when we have a period.

Fluid is but nothing to worry about, it is usually the result of an easily treated infection or slight damage to the tube - cause generally unknown but nothing sinister. Fluid in tube can cause it to swell and give same symptoms as a cyst. In or out of ovary will give same symptoms too.

Next to and in can sometimes be difficult to tell apart untill have time to sit down and study the scans.

The pathway for where cancer is suspected is far shorter than the time you will have to wait for your gynae appointment. If this is the case we are talking days and not weeks.

Write down anything you need to know over the next few weeks, then make two copies one for you and one to give the gynae. Take someone with you if you can.

      Always here for you

Big hugs and my thoughts are still with you

Ah thanks taz. I was just so frustrated as my doctor seemed to shrug it off and even went back to thinking it was gastric problem! Because of upper abdomen pain. She ignored the fact I felt breathless & get dizzy rolleyes  I've def got back pain lower and pelvic pain too. Surely ud think she'd give me antibiotics sad I have to go away now not knowing still sad

      Thanks again taz xx

Would, so pester the gynae when see them. Pelvic pain is listed as a specific symptom of fluid in the fallopian tubes. Not nice for you but at least taking time should mean will get right answer and treatment in end,  smile sad
    • Posted

It doesn't mean cancer tho does it with fluid in tube sad could just b an underlying infection poss? I work at hospital so I will try and get it brought forward. Will keep u posted. Thanku smile x

Not sign of cancer only mentioned so have idea of timings if they feel it may be, with me did , but that was a large cyst, so saw me within three days, it wasn't by the way.

Meant it to be reassuring, sorry if not.

      Good idea.

No I think CA levels would have been a lot higher if was, silly me. Uve been very brave having to go through what u did. I will let u know when I get a more definite diagnosis smile

      Take good care xx

Levels would have been well into the hundreds

Hope get answer soon so can get on with a life that must, at times, feel like it is on hold

Big hugs and still thinking of you

I know you wont mind me saying Taz, that elevated CA125 results (even into the hundreds) arent always Cancer and some women with Cancer dont even have a particularly raised CA125. Im not saying that to frighten anyone but we must remember lots of people will be reading this for reassurance that do have elevated results that turn out to have endo/cysts etc and no sign of cancer. Much love to you all smile
    • Posted

Yes I did read that also so bit bothersome. Even tho saying bit of fluid in tube, still could b anythg, even if just an infection ud think they would poss give me course if antibiotics or something rolleyes

To just leave me and say gynae appt takes upto 6 weeks isn't very helpful sad

Of course not awaywiththefaries and thanks for reminding me to quantify what I say. Moan enough about Drs not explaining that test innacurate and influenced by many factors, then go and do it myself. DOH

Lol thanks Taz. Im one of those with a high CA125 and i know when im reading posts i always look for the bit where it says its not always the worst result. Flippin CA125 is starting to  take over my mind!!!
