Ovarian cyst

hi, I am 55years old I haven't had a period for nearly 5years. Last month I had extremely heavy bleeding one weekend so I went to the go on the Monday. He said I need a ultra sound scan which I had this Thursday, they told me I had a cyst on the right ovary. The lady said it was probably the cause of the bleeding. Then the next day my go surgery phoned they had the results and the doctor needs to see me as you can imagine I had to go and see him that afternoon I was really nervous in case they found something else as well but the doctor told me the same as the lady yesterday but he doesn't think the cyst is the cause so he wants me to see a gynoclogist he may want to do a biopsy but if the cyst isn't the cause of the bleeding then what is? No fibroids showed up everything else looked normal . Has anyone any ideas as to what is causing the bleeding?

Hi Flo,
Years ago, in 1988 I had a heavy bleed from out of the blue, my gp sent me to a gyno. And he said it was a cervical erosion. You would think an erosion would be something like an ulcer, but no, it was the tissue that normally grows inside the cervix that can sometimes migrate and grow on the outside.
That was what was bleeding, I had it lazered but was told it would probably grow back again because my hormones were not right.
I had completed my family so had a hysterectomy, best thing I ever did.
I hope it's something like this that you have.
They have to get things like this dealt with within a two week window, just in case. I am going through the same sort of thing at the moment with a colo rectal consultant, due to severe anaemia and am being rushed through scans and other tests.
They are just being cautious, and if they do find anything with either of us, it will be dealt with sooner than later.

Hi Laura3333, thanks for replying let's hope neither of our problems are serious I'm curious to find out hopefully what is causing the bleeding I have had blood tests done as well nothing showed up there. The nurse who did the scan said the lining of the womb was normal for someone of my age so I really don't know wait and see if I get to see the gyno soon . I hope your scans are ok and normal take care.

Thankyou, I think I have a fissure, had a prolapse repair plus ovary removed due to a cyst last year and haven't been right since, but they have to check everything.
Don't think you'll have to wait long to see gyno. Hope he can put your mind at rest.
Come back and let us know.

Hi,
I was searching for Blogs and Forum regarding Ovarian Dermoid. Last Oct, I visited my gyne and had checkup and everything comes ok. then I told gyne that I to take pills. And she said ok and I take pills for 3 mos and go back to her is it because I started having discharged with nasty smell, She said nothng to worry about. she gave me medicine for that and its gone. after two month since my last visit to gyne means 5 mos taking pills. I was shocked, me and my husband had intercourse and I had blood like fresh blood. I have no symptoms and no pain but I am worried because the blood was after intercourse and in the middle of the month which means it is new to me, never had experience like this. I visited gyne and exmine everything and she can see cleary my right ovary. It looks like twisted. she send me ultrasound and the other doctor found my right ovary shows and echogenic lesion measuring 4.7 x 4.5 x 3.9 cm and she says most likely ovarian dermoid. I didnt go back to gyne because I am so scared. I don bleed every time I had intercourse but once every month which is alarming.
I srated drinking apple cider vinergar and hoping when i see my doctor the dermoid is gone. It is my 3rd day drinking ACV and Ihad intercourse yesterday and had fresh blood again. I am so worried. by the way, I am 34 years old, one kid 12 yrs old now and CS

Hello Hopejoy,
you must go back to your gyno, dermoid cysts do not go on their own, and that is probably where the bleeding is coming from.
If you need to have it removed, and it will keep growing if you don't, it's not a big operation.
But you have to go back, don't be scared.
You need it gone, maple cider vinegar won't do anything.
Are you in the UK, can you get an appointment easily?

I agree with Laura, it won't go away on its own if it's a dermoid cyst. They tend to affect young(ish) women from teens onwards. The op is often done by laparoscopic surgery, ie: keyhole surgery so not invasive and heals quickly. My grandaughter had one removed and recovered well and back to normal now. Please go back to your Gyny soon as poss and get it sorted. It can be very painful if it twists.
